Hopefully he can give us some solid snaps and some timely turnovers. Seems to have a knack for punching the ball out.

I was hoping for this from him hopefully it continues.

This man deserves some apologies. No doubt he lost a step, had boneheaded penalties and deserves criticism. But any player that can come in and impact our defense with what we always seem to lack in turnovers, let alone lead the damn NFL in forced fumbles from the freaking CB position is a welcome addition in my opinion. Shoot it's not like we got much better to choose from on our roster after Moseley anyways. Keep ballin Norman

Norman is a reminder to our DC, that we should be doing a drill every practice, just like Vince Lombardi used to do with the Packers. Every D practice , 15 minutes was spent trying to punch or strip the ball from all the RBs. 15 mins, every day….imagine that. Welp, GB had a ton of forced fumbles. Don't know if we practice it ever, but is great method for teaching ball carriers how to protect the ball and most important, teaches DBs, DL, LBs how to get the ball loose and on the ground.Lombardi's teams always led the league in forced and recovered fumbles, resulting in 1 or more extra O series every game for scores.

This is exactly what Demeco should be doing, and Norman can be his instructor …but stripping is also an art form that can be learned. The punch is equally effective and a bit easier…one just has to be thinking of it when going for the tackle.

For a team w/ as few TOs as we have, this really should be a daily exercise.

A benefit of zone defense is being able to gang tackle. Every 49er defender should be doing what Norman does and trying to force a fumble when they converge on the ball carrier. Props to Norman for bringing this part of the game to the defense.

Yeah hopefully its a huge point of emphasis in practice.Once it starts happening on gameday it seems to become contagious for the whole team and happening at a higher frequency. If we can continue forcing turnovers ,getting points off turnovers and controlling the clock on offense well be hard to stop. Signing Norman for his ability to force turnovers alone was worth signing him if it helps the rest of the defense do the same despite his flaws in coverage.

Need to stop the hate. Norman is our #1 CB. Leads the league in FF by big margin now. Currently ranked #2 in 49er history in single season forced fumbles (FF). Just keep the punches between the whistle and at the ball not the man.

I listened to Eric Crockers podcast this morning and he had some solid points about Norman. Dude has played well and has shown more positives then Lenoir. Dude forces fumbles and has an interception. Like every other corner in the league, he gives up catches and will get called for a penalty. Dude is physical and still adapting to the team. He missed an entire training camp and preseason. I don't expect him to be the Norman of 4 years ago but he has been reliable.

Now, the rest if the team needs to be more ready for the fumble recoveries. Then we will be loving his impact

Sucks balls. Im surprised teams dont flea flicker toward him every week. If you watch him closely, he bites hard on play action. Some of the receivers he's covering are running wide open because he's caught looking in the backfield. And then there are plays where his receiver catches it and he's just jogging behind hoping that Tartt or Ward can make the tackle.

I guess beggars cant be choosers, but my lord...

Good post. He just allows those catches so he can go for the forced fumble.

Like Whitner said, he's a street free agent, we shouldn't expect much. He did bite hard on that trick play, but it's because his tendency is to help support the run. He doesn't shy away from contact. Clearly he's lost a step, but he's trying to make it up elsewhere at least.
Norman is no longer a cover corner. He may be able to play in zone schemes. Josh does do a great job of punching the ball out, but we cannot recover the fumbles.

He does not have the foot speed to cover quick or WR's who have straight line speed. Therefore, he attempts to slow receivers down by grabbing and/or pulling at WRs. He is technical is decent but can't flip his hips fast enough to make plays on the ball. His career is coming to end. He should be a teams 4/5 CB on a team.

Worst thing to happen to was Varrett getting injured. He was a baller when healthy. This killed out backend.

He was always best as a zone CB.

He isn't amazing but he's also got 7 forced fumbles (most in the NFL) and a INT. The DPI are frustrating as hell BUT at the very least he's helping turn the ball over.
Norman is susceptible in coverage, often giving up big plays over top. But our safeties are quite fundamental and disciplined, so the broken coverage by Norman never really goes for six.

However, what I love about Norman is that he's a playmaker. He meshes well with our defensive identity. Early on in the season, I was constantly b*thing that our defense wasn't causing turnovers. We were sound, but never making the big plays. I think we had one turnover (the Greenlaw pick-6 against DET) the first five weeks.

Ever since we added Norman, those turnovers have skyrocketed. He'll give up a play here and there, and will get flagged multiple times every game, but the dude is a playmaker. He's constantly looking for that turnover. With how disciplines and fundamentally sound the rest of our defense is, we need someone like Norman to take risks and create the big play. Love it.

I can't tell if this guy sucks or not. I guess he's just okay and probably better than we should expect for a guy picked up off the street after the season had started.
I would gladly give up one or two defensive penalties and 40 to 50 yards in coverage a game if it means getting a FF turnover in exchange. As we all know turnovers are the number one indicator of winning/losing a football game. Too bad we can't recover forced fumbles for the life of us
he should be in 1 on 1 tackling drills all week
