Yeah, now that Johnson is back that means Ambry is inactive(ugh), he needs playing time, I get Johnson can play both outside and inside at the slot, but idk, he's so meh, rather let the young kid develop.

As for returners, I'm assuming Mitchell is active, then he's the KR, as for PR Aiyuk which is a bad idea IMO, I don't want our #1 WR returning punts.

As for gunners, Sherfield for sure, idk the other, did Mitchell play there last Sunday?

I still think Sanu will be our PR. He has experience on 2 teams doing it and has solid hands which is all many of us are asking for. No way I want Aiyuk back there in harms way

Well Special Teams IS a lot more important than people are making it out to be, even if it's less important than in the past.

"If you think special teams is of low value, think differently, as the 49ers actually lost 52.6 points to their opponents last year solely because of special teams, which ranked 30th in the NFL."

In 2020, the 49ers were three full touchdowns worth of points below NFL average on punt returns. SF ranked second-to-last in the league. There was very notable inefficiency here and it almost might've cost game(s).

Soooo...I guess Kyle should rethink his flawed reasoning in regards to special teams/having a pure return specialist on the team. It's absolutely worth a roster spot. It could easily mean the difference in a close game in the playoffs or SB

Breaking News: Witherspoon traded to the Steelers I really wanted free tds and yards this year when we played them. I guess DJ Reed and whoever lines up as the opposite cb will have to do

I think he was a victim of numbers in the cutdown. My guess is they took a chance and were hoping he would make it through waivers. Win some and lose some.

Well if you can't agree with such a simplistic random model maybe this might enlighten you. Our special teams has been absolute garbage and so have our PR's/KR's over the last decade. If you think a great returner isn't more beneficial than a 5th or 6th wr or a 11th DL that contributes next to nothing Our return game is straight up embarrassing. Does that represent anything "useful?" It's common sense and I'm glad Lynch said we need to improve in this area. I hope our front office handles this bc wether you want to admit it or not, it's the truth and has been hurting the team for years. Kyle does have flawed reasoning in not prioritizing this

Thanks for trying but still not very compelling as a reason to put too much emphasis on a returner who doesn't offer much else. James (who most think is pretty terrible) was the returner in 2019 when the 49ers were 12th in the league as opposed to 2020 when he was also the returner and they were 23rd in the league. Maybe the biggest difference wasn't actually in the returner but the fact that most of the supporting cast was on I.R. in 2020. The difference between a James and any of the other available options, or even a warm body who won't fumble the punt isn't probably that much. It isn't like there is a Hester available.

Anytime.....also using James and our 12th ranking is a joke. We all know our special teams are garbage and so have our returners since Ginn jr. Guess you really love a player on our roster that will never contribute vs having a dangerous returner that can flip the field and help us so much more.
