plus this wasn't about trades.. it was how many QBs can do whatever here
Sure Jimmy can win games on certain teams in the league. I don't think he wins 75% of his games if he was tossed onto the lions or Jets teams right. Now. I just believe this team and coaching staff can get the most out of their QB. I think our organization overall is better than a lot of teams in the league.
FWIW Jimmy was also ranked 21st by a panel made up of GMs/coaches (50 total) and 17th overall after the 2019 season, so either NFL personnel across the league is completely wrong on James or some of our fan base might have a little favoritism towards their QB?
Honestly we don't know who Jimmy would've been had he gone somewhere else. Did anyone expect the impact he had on that 1 win team in 2017? Yes we had Kyle and his playcalling goes a long way but the whole team improved with Jimmy and not just a little…if we could've went to the playoffs we could've had a legit run the way the team was playing with Jimmy.
The issue is the ACL. It's an unknown variable. Last year was supposed to be his breakout year and instead the team and Jimmy broke for the most part.
Jimmy has always been limited but so is Tom Brady or Drew Brees. It's a matter of development and Jimmy couldn't do that because of his injury issues. Well when you're paying a guy that much you can't hold out hope that Jimmy 2017 version on a better roster comes back and stays healthy given recent results.
Lance was a smart choice and I think he'll prove that. But those rankings are based on post ACL Jimmy. ACL injuries aren't just physical they're mental as well. Can we look at the film and see the same QB pre/post ACL? I don't think so. The plays Jimmy made in 2017 simply are far and few in between. It could also be that the beating he was taking took its toll on him. He wouldn't be the first QB ruined by getting his ass beat out there.
I'm excited to watch these guys battle. I think Jimmy despite his rankings and recent bashing by the media is a pretty good NFL QB, he's just not great. But it this competition gets the best out of him that's a benefit for this team either in the trade department or in the may the best man win department.
Lance is showing great things out there and if the option is have great camp hype or hear bad camp news…I'm taking the hype all damn day.
BUT for me and my sanity I want to see the kid play in a game where defenders can and want to hit you before I really get excited and want him staring over Jimmy right away.
