At this point, I think we can all assume Zach Wilson is gone by #2 even if you think the Jets will trade with someone else, personally I think the Jets will take Wilson. And the 9ers will take Trey Lance at #3 or at worse Justin Fields. That's OK, is not the end of the world.

I'm not assuming anything. Jets could fall in love with Lance or Fields and Wilson could drop to 3. Jets could not take a QB. 9ers could trade up from 3 to 2 assuming dropping to 12 was too much for the Jets. Point is, there are alot of different scenarios.

Also, "at worse Justin Fields." Oh there is worse.

2 firsts but whose counting?

No. It is 3 first even if you're swapping firsts it still counts as a first

Basic math. If you give up 3 and gain 1 the net is 2.

why do you have to explain this? god damn our education system sucks
He's right.

3 firsts plus a 3rd for a rookie qb. Why is that not right? Let's say miami drafted trey lance at #3. The 49ers give up #12 2021, 2022 1st and 2023 1st and 2021 for trey lance. That's three firsts and a third for trey lance. Why is that hard to understand.

Lol. The extra wording isn't going to make you right. It's 2 firsts homie

Tell me how I'm wrong.

2021 3rd

For

Mac Jones

That is 3 firsts and a 3rd for Mac jones. If it's mac jones.
how do we get jones if we gave away 3 firsts ?

Numerous other teams were looking to move up to #3. By draft day it would have been a month too late.

Lol hey man I think the chances of that are pretty slim but if they think his Tom Brady I'm glad they grew a set and got their guy...but in no world is Mac McCorkle Jones worth 3 1st rd picks
I think the debate is between Justin Fields and Mac Jones with Mac having a slight edge in 49ers mind. I don't see Shanahan taking a chance on a FCS guy.

Well first off it's not gonna be Mac Jones, second it's a 2022 3rd where we have multiple 3rd.

who gives a flying f**k about future picks when you're talking about a FQB

If there is one thing about Kyle and John is that when they target a guy, they get him. At position #3, they have to be good with two guys in their grading system.

Ok...I'm not getting it. I have questions.

Trading 3 1sts for a higher 1st to draft a QB who isn't going to play this upcoming year?

...AND they don't know who it's going to be, but they like their options?

Was this an overpay? Are ShannyLynch absolutely THAT enamored with our prospects at #3?

Not it's not.

it's Lance or Fields.

They were never in position to get back a first round pick. Maybe a 5th round pick.

First thing I thought about when I heard the news was the Niners have solid intel the Jets aren't taking Wilson at #2. If they were, then the trade is with them, not Miami. Pretty sure Shanahan wants Wilson...he fits Coach's offense very well. Another thought is WRT Lance...he certainly didn't hurt himself at his Pro Day...in fact, he blew it up. His experience level could be a red flag for our braintrust...if so, I get it. I think if the Pats offer a 2nd or even 3rd rd pick for JG, the Niners take it. Their 3rd rd pick is much better than the end-of-the-rounder they gave up to Miami. All of this is pure conjecture, but at a minimum this trade executes what most of us have thought...they're putting their chips into the center of the table for a QB not named Jimmy G.

Word is that Kyle is ok with any of the top 3 QB's. Steve Young made that historic 50+ yard run in '88 to seal a playoff spot and a super bowl championship. The two back to back super bowl years ('88 and '89) Steve Young started 3 games when Montana (I guess) was injured. If a Rookie QB deal is 3 years at bargain prices (defer to AB81 on this), conceivably you can keep a rookie behind Jimmy for three years and trade Jimmy in the 4th - to have that QB depth. Patriots with Tom and Jimmy won two super bowls, and maybe one reason is tremendous QB depth.
I see you still will not accept Jimmy is NOT in there plans for the future. This is not like The packers taking Love at the end of the 1st round. They gave up a lot of capital they have moved on from Jimmy it's just a matter of when they cut ties.

Who knows what their pans are until they act? They could be trading Jimmy tomorrow for all I know. I think they'll be taking it a year at a time regarding Jimmy and the Rookie QB. As others have said, if Jimmy wins a super bowl this year - do you trade him? I wouldn't. But that assumes he stays healthy and wins a super bowl. I think his health is the main reason they are doing this, not so much his performance on the gridiron. But I also think this is the perfect move to motivate Jimmy to take care of himself, or he will lose his job if he can't stay healthy go to work.

Once again, terrible logic. How many Oregon QBs flopped in the NFL before Herbert came in and tore it up as a rookie last year? Imagine if San Diego had chosen to pass on him all because of what happened with Mariota, Joey Harrington and Akili Smith? How many Air Raid QBs flopped before Mahomes?

The previous Ohio State QBs have exactly jack squat to do with Fields.

Exactly.

Hell, one of the knocks against Aaron Rodgers coming into the 05 draft was that he was a Jeff Tedford QB.

Before Rodgers, these were the previous Tedford drafted QBs

Trent Dilfer
Akili Smith
David Carr
Joey Harrington
Kyle Boller

Aaron destroyed that narrative.

I've enjoyed watching the bell curve of this thread thread from start to finish.

Absolutely positive pandemonium for the first two hours...now on the backside of the curve into pervasive pessimism.
