All those teams had a monster at WR that fought for 50/50 balls. Kyle in 4 years has yet to sign/develop or draft someone like that. Maybe this is what he wants in the evolution of his system?

Lol, thats not evolution, its the opposite. You dont go from a balanced passing attack to thinking that 70s football is the new way. Makes 0 sense. Its pretty obvious what the issue is.

We need a winner that can run the Kyle Shanahan offense. We don't need a turnover machine that thinks they are Brett Favre while mimicking all the bad things Favre did. We need a guy that hits the deep ball to a streaking receiver on the biggest stage of them all. We need a guy that just gets it done, week in and week out. Anything less will keep us right where we are, which is mediocre when were banged up, almost good enough when we are healthy.

I don't want to be second place anymore. Its time to win.

Aiyuk is a monster. Deebo is a monster. Kittle is a monster. How can any of these guys realize their fill potential if Nicky and Jimmy can't get the ball to them deep? Aiyuk in particular has shown the ability to make plays in the deep passing game

Blaming the WRs and Kittle now is a joke. Deebo, Aiyuk and Kittle is insane talent

I love Kyle but that's on him. Why on earth he didn't get a veteran to be a backup like the Saints seem to always do is beyond me. Mullens had a noodle arm and well CJ sucks. I really hope if they keep Jimmy they go find a veteran who can make throws down field.

I think Kyle is of the mindset that if your starting qb goes down then your season is pretty much done. You might disagree with that but its mostly true. Mullens would be fine if he only had to play a game or two or three.

The Saints are paying Hill 20 mil and I doubt anybody here woulda been drooling over getting Winston. Most every other team in the NFL is screwed if they lose their starter for the year. We're just unfortunate because it happens to us more than anyone else. Problem is we need a starter that can play more than one season at a time.

Aiyuk and Jimmy have hardly played or practiced together.

What qb should the 49ers get who will win 12 or more games for the 49ers next year?

Teams win games. Their goal should be have the best team possible.

Unless we get Jimmy from Saints game back he won't help us win 12 games making his salary.

Jimmy didn't play yesterday.

The team wins 75% of their games with Jimmy and well under 50% without him.

Tim Tebows Broncos won more games with him than when he was on the bench also.

Tim Tebow is 8-6 as a starter, Jimmy G is 24-8.

He was forced out of the NFL with a winning record. Cause his record didn't matter it was the quality of his play.

Yes, but it is a lame comparison because he sucked.

You are comparing a guy with a career 48% completion percentage to a guy with a career 68% completion percentage.

Jimmy G is much better than Tim Tebow. Even though both had a game where the coach took the ball out of their hands. I'm just saying winning doesn't mean the player is exempt from replacement if an upgrade is available. So if a upgrade were available the 49ers should 100% take the upgrade.

Totally agree, been a diehard since 95" want a dam Super Bowl win already
Yes, if the OP is saying we don't need Mullens, correct, a thousand times.

And since Jimmy must now be assessed as either A: Glass Half Empty or B: Glass Half Full, nothing else matters in this off-season than either A: finding his replacement or B: funding his support system.

The single remedy here derives from a cost benefit analysis coupled with an availability pool.
At today's point we are lacking information.

Something must be done of course.

God I am so tired of this question. Exhausted.

Its an impossible question to answer because no one has ANY idea what QBs will be available. No one has ANY idea what drafted QBs will end up being generational talents. And because its an impossible question to answer, the person asking the question gets a false sense of confidence that the inability to receive a good answer means his POV is correct. It isnt.

If you dont have a franchise QB, you should be constantly looking for one. Period.

It wasn't? You sure about that? In 2016 Matt Ryan threw deep 64 times.....
RGIII had the highest deep ball % of any of Kyle's QB's, and he also had the lowest mid-range % and highest LOS %. Considering that pretty much every other QB has sat around 10-12% deep ball, highest mid-range, RGIII is the exception, not the rule. Easy to understand considering RGIII wasn't either of their choice for QB and was forced on them and is now a 3rd string QB.

2019 Jimmy did only have 34 deep attempts. But, we had zero deep speed outside once Marquise Goodwin couldn't stay on the field. This year, Jimmy's deep ball % was actually back above 10%. Matt Ryan's 2016 was 11.9%

For more context on the offense let's consider "deep" passes 15+ yards since those numbers are easier to find over the years.
Matt Schaub 15.7% of passes
Matt Ryan 15.8% of passes
Jimmy 14.3 % of passes
Steve Young 1994(Kyle's dad running the offense) 13.4% of passes.

What about Jimmy from the 2 Cardinals games, the Packers game, the Rams game, the Seattle game. Basically, any game when we had both Emmanuel Sanders and George Kittle....?
The only "bad" games Jimmy had after we got Sanders - and he played, was the Atlanta game and the Ravens game. The Ravens game we should all remember as the 2nd wettest game played after the Washington game after a tropical storm soaked the area for 24 straight hours. ATL, he was 65% comp, 1 TD 0 INT gave the team the lead with 1:42 left in the game.

You guys acting like he only had 1 good game last year is silly. He had a bunch of really good games last year. Give the guy healthy, quality receivers and he plays really, really well.

Our old pal Niners816 did numbers last year. After the Sanders trade, Jimmy was on pace for almost 4500 yards and 32 TD's to 8 or 9 INT's over 16 games.
Before we got Sanders it was like 3500 yards and 22 TD's.

That's the benchmark. If you want to move on to find a "better" QB, they better be able to do better than that. I get not wanting to put everything into the, "i hope Jimmy stays healthy" bag. But, to make sure any of our QB's stay healthy we need to invest a lot of upcoming draft capital into the O-line either via trade of the draft itself. To me, let's go get a backup QB in the 3rd round. If Jimmy clearly shows he's not the guy in 2021, then we blow the whole thing up and rebuild. That's the better option if we're going to start over with a new FR QB.

I agree with this more.

Dumping JG and drafting a rookie high with this online is a Jets move at best.

The salary cap says hi.
