You're suddenly the 49ers HC: What Do You Do NOW?

I go pull the Bill Walsh/Bill Belechik playbooks and meld the 2 together like he should have done already. Jimmy is a Belechik style QB. Watching Burro right now and Cinn is integrating LSU passing concepts. Pretty effing simple. His ego won't allow it. 40ish points per game or bust at this point

Offense:

- OL changes. I'd put McKivitz at RG and let Brunskill be the swing backup across the positions. I'd also give Grasu more snaps at center if Garland struggles.

- I want to see Dwelley and Woerner more involved in the offense including at FB. I like Juice but he's not work $6M/year.

- Get a vertical passing game going. We are short ranged focus and depend on YAC to move the ball. If Jimmy can't handle it, it's time to move on.

Defense:

- With Alexander out, I want to see more snaps for T. Moore and M. Harris. 4-1-6 scheme when Warner or Greenlaw need rest. Get more DBs on the field to provide some blitz complexity.

- If we continue to suffer CB injuries, move Ward to CB and let Moore start at FS.

- Sign a edge vet. Dare I say...Cassius Marsh. We just need SOME edge pressure.

Special Teams:

- Let James take all the snaps at KR/PR now. No more Taylor, White, Pettis.

- Develop some fake plays. We got an athletic punter. We are so bland creatively on special teams.

- Start vetting out kickers in FA and the draft. Cap constraints may require us to decline Gould's 2021 option.

I like the idea of putting in McKivitz but I would move Brunskill to LT. (very unpopular opinion, I know. ) I think Brunskill did a good job last year at that spot. Or maybe put McG at LT and Brunskill at RT with Mckivitz at RG.

IT was simply because Shanny wanted a RB that was familiar w/his offense and one that he's coached before.. same reason why he wanted Cousins... Reed... Trent Williams... but the problem is that Shanny did not know that Mostert was going to be this good and that Wilson will be a very capable backup..

It's sad to know that both Kyle and Lynch wont man up to their mistakes... the same reason why both Pettis and CJ are still here... they were "hand picked" and it would make them look bad to cut ties w/their 2nd and 3rd rounder..

I was going to make a similar thread to this after the Dolphin's game then this came up, I was going to respond but thought I should wait until after the Rams game before posting to see if there was any team spirit left.

So after one embarrassing loss against a decent team and one excellent win against a very good team (the Rams) I thought I'd offer up my views. I'm going to categorise the roster and mention specific players, if they're not listed here it's because I consider them solid starters or players who are not restricting the success of the team in some fashion.

Superstars to Build Around (Perennial All-Pro's or in the Mix)
Nick Bosa - this is a no-brainer and he should be the cornerstone of our defense when he returns healthy. We need a good backup to him and a complementary piece on the other side of the line to rush the passer as well, ideally a speed rusher. (I'll get to Dee Ford).

George Kittle - another no-brainer. I think we've done well in bringing in receivers who can take some of the attention from him and complement him but ideally we need a good all-round TE as a backup. Having a specialist move or receiving TE and a specialist blocking TE tips our hand when Kittle needs a rest.

Fred Warner - he's finally getting the recognition from others this season but he is the archtype LB in the modern game; excellent in coverage, moving side-to-side and a great tackler.

Good/Great Players to Develop and Complement the Above (Pro-bowlers who may have All-Pro Seasons)
Deebo - has real potential to move into the category above but we need our passing game to improve.
Mostert - he could become a superstar but I think his durability is the question. If he can consistently stay healthy he could be All-Pro
Verret - like Mostert it's a health issue but he's showing his talent more and more. He's playing himself into a good contract (incentive laden probably).
Ayiuk - he's really showing up as a rookie and with development could really show out; like Deebo our passing game needs to improve to let him realise his full potential.
Jimmy G - I'm a huge Jimmy fan but he needs to play out the season at a high level to show he deserves his contract, more on that below.

Players with Question Marks
Richard Sherman - his calf is obviously still bothering him, but he's also getting older and whilst he's never relied on speed, I'm concerned that next year he might very well find he's exposed on deeper plays. I'd like to resign him on a reduced deal but would be prepared to replace him.
Trent Williams - I think he's finding his feet but he needs to continue to play out the season at a high level to justify a big contract.

Players to Replace or Cut for Various Reasons
Dee Ford - man this is tough for me as I love the player, but he is not reliable at all and the back injury concerns me (as someone who has had numerous back injuries). His salary and roster spot are hindering the team significantly now as he is just not available. Even if he comes back healthy this season (which I personally doubt) we just can't rely on him to contribute. I would draft or sign a speed edge rusher to complement Bosa and move on regardless now.
Kwon Alexander - it's a mix of availability and play ability for me here. I love his character and heart, which has great value to a team, but he's often injured and continually missing tackles or taking bad angles. Greenlaw has offered more and done so consistently.
Tevin Coleman - I don't get why the coaching staff love him so much; the run game is so much more productive without him and Wilson and Hasty both seem to pick the cutback/hole better and offer more. I think Jet matches him in running ability but offers much more in pass blocking and receiving on 3rd down.
Kendrick Bourne - great guy but maddeningly inconsistent and drops at key moments will cost us games, it's happened before and will happen again.
Richie James - he doesn't offer enough on returns to make him worth the roster spot. I'd rather draft a returner who could also contribute on offense.
Pettis - nothing more to say.
Witherspoon - nothing more to say

Seeing Out the Season
I think we're in the mix to win the division if we continue to play as we did vs the Rams, but we will be reliant on offense. If Dee Ford and Ronnie Blair return healthy then I think we'll be much improved on defence closing out the season but that's a big question mark, however Seattle hasn't really played a complete team or a tough schedule. They've won vs the Dan Quinn Falcons, the Cowboys, the Vikings, the Dolphins (I know!) and the Patriots. All those teams have significant issues and the games have been shoot-outs with all being one score wins except for the Falcons; I think teams that play ball control and complementary football with a solid defense will give them difficulty.

At the worst, we're certainly in the hunt for a Wild Card spot, I don't think we're a SuperBowl contender at the moment but I'm also conscious that we're heading to full health on Offense and should improve, we also looked much more like our 2019 selves last night but that has to continue and we must consistently execute at that level. To reach SB contender we also really need a better pass rush and if by some miracle Dee Ford returns and plays as he can then it's not impossible.

Jimmy has to play out the season at a high level to justify his contract (I think he'll do this) and show he can elevate the team as he did in 2017. He doesn't need to Mahomes, he doesn't need to put every game on his back but he does need to be able to put some games on his back. I do have high hopes for Jimmy and I think he can do it, but it's a valid question.

Regardless of how we finish this season, we definitely have to address some areas of the roster we must improve on. I think we've taken conscious gambles on players like Kwon and Ford whilst rebuilding as high-risk high-reward but we no longer need to rely on that approach quite so often - nothing wrong with this as an occasional strategy though.

So for me it's play out the season as above, but regardless of how we turn out - even if by some miracle we won the SB - I'd still make the cuts as above. Looking forward to free agency and the draft we need edge rusher, CB, Oline and a wide receiver who can stretch the field as we must threaten deep to keep teams honest.
