Obviously it was a frustrating loss. Not having multiple starters, plus a banged up TE is hard to overcome, but there was still enough talent to win this game. Jimmy G isn't going anywhere, just to get that out of the way. That said, here are a few ideas for changes against the Jets: 1) Put Richie James on IR and either sign Sanu or bring up Kevin White. Not saying either would be a savior, but James pulled his hamstring and has minimal to no value as a WR. He's a kickoff returner and most are touchbacks anyway. Put McKinnon back there instead. Hopefully Aiyuk is back healthy, so 2 new WRs to the mix. 2) Lean on the run more. Get 30+ rushes out of Mostert, Coleman and McKinnon. And stick with it if it's working. Niners are built (especially now) to be a run first team. 3) Employ 2 or 3 TE looks and utilize them. Perhaps the matchups will be favorable for Kittle, Reed, and Dwelley to be on the field together. Baltimore 2.0. 4) Spread the ball around. This is tricky because Jimmy shouldnt force it to anyone, but make the defense account for everyone. Bubble screen, shovel pass, take a deep shot if its 1 on 1. Which leads to.... 5) Male the defense defend the whole field. The short to intermediate middle is where Jimmy looks to go. We all know this. The longest air traveled pass was to a FB! Great play design, just need more of it to push the ball downfield. If the line can block for it of course... What else do you think? It sucks to lose the opener, but with what we've all been through this year, still really excited football's back. Just 1 game and I fully expect to be 2-1 after the NJ games. But mobile QBs are a killer...

You can spread out Kittle and Reed. Spread is just formation, it doesn't dictate personnel.

Arizona found two things that worked and used them over and over. Hopkins pass receiving skill and the QB scrambling. Let the Niners focus on something that works and stay with the entire game.

The offense has the same problems Kyle's offenses always have:

Settling for FG's.
Zero creativity on 4th and short.
Lineman are too small to get push in short yardage situations.
Lack of a big power back.

Kyle would do well to incorporate a few elements from HarRoman's offense.

Not to mention, the defense is back to being predictable again.

Kittle had a sprained knee. Unlikely he could make quick cuts and pin moves to break man defense in the AZ game.

A big part of this offense is the WRs and it would be like HaRoman offense not having Gire.

that would have been a great move this last offseason, but just didn't have enough draft picks in my opinion. They needed Kinlaw and aiyuk picks, and didn't have a pick till the 5th. I think the 49er defense did a decent job against the AZ offense. The game was lost because of the 49er offense. Very very tough to stop mobile QBs, thats why Bill Bellicheat has gone with Cam Newton.

I don't think Sherman would agree to move to SS yet. He just had a all pro season last season at CB. We also have a solid Tartt at SS under a very reasonable salary.

Even if we drafted a CB in the first round, I think we would have kept Sherman at CB this season.

As our offense is set up currently, we need to have Jimmy over center more and keep to our inside/outside zone schemes. They were working well against Cardinals. What didn't work was when Jimmy was in shotgun and then handing off to Mostert on sweeps. On passing, Jimmy missed a lot of open receivers. If his first read wasn't open he basically lost it. His mechanics are for crap right now. Very low confidence. Kyle needs to convince him he's good and get him to let it rip.

Defensively, 49ers have a terrible time against mobile QB's. They have to employ a spy. Not a LB, perhaps someone like Travarious Moore who has speed although, I think Jimmy Ward would be the best because he is awesome at taking good angles. Just don't think Niners will use him that way.

As far as receivers like Hopkin's, he needs to be doubled. 49ers are stubborn to employ such a tactic but must change that mindset. I guarantee you that Bellichik would employ a spy for Murray, double Hopkins and then make the Cardinal try and beat him any other way. At this point, Murray is a one read and then run QB.
