I Definitely didn't see this coming. I thought 20 million was insane, but 10- 15, maybe a few teams would offer that. I wonder what the 49ers offered before they moved on to extending McKivitz.

Rumor/report was 3yr $45M, so $15M APY, he obviously thought he could/would get $20M a yr, I think Maiocco said they offered $17M a yr, but Idk if true, cause I never heard that.

This isn't a shock to me at all. I thought this could be the case, which is why I think it's a really good chance JJ returns. JJ has a particular skill-set that fits very few schemes. And, most importantly, JJ has a unique football mind-set most NFL WR's really don't have – elite downfield blocking and the honest desire to do so without complaint. JJ isn't a "diva" WR. Most NFL WR's demand the football, so much so that they're willing to publicly pout about it. JJ delights in doing a lot of dirty work in Shanny's passing game that don't show up on the stat sheets. This makes him very valuable in Shanny's scheme, but not so much anywhere else.

More surprising to me than the fact he hasn't been signed is the seemingly so little HC's unwilling to, or lack the creativity to utilize JJ's skill-set in their scheme. This gives Shanny & Co. the upper hand in negotiating with JJ, and that's no knock against him. They know few, if any other teams other than the 49ers, can/are willing to use JJ. Hence why he'll likely not get signed, and why I predict a probable JJ return.

Now, it's still early. The draft still has to play itself out, so don't expect him to be signed by another team until after the draft if he is to be signed.

I never heard that either, and I been looking (not to say it's isn't true). If that's true it make sense. If I were in JJ's shoes, and if that's the best offer I could get on the open market, resigning with the 49ers for the $17mil make far more sense.

Also kinda crazy that Deebo and Aiyuk are also available (technical in aiyuks case).. just a reminder how fast things change in this league.

JJ really seemed like the prime candidate to be the guy that a team with a ton of cap room splurged to sign in FA.

true, plus T. Hill.
I am guessing Jauan and Deebo will be signed after teams miss out on the WRs they want in the draft.

I love the optimism, but I think both JJ and Deebo's time as 49ers (even a potential reunion) have passed. We've seen extensive turnover at the position and in the process of a cultural and talent overall. Two short-term additions (Evans, Kirk) paired with youth on the roster (Pearsall, Cowing, Watkins). And I expect at least one selection in the draft.

So unless there's a major injury, any vet addition will need to provide versatility (X/Y/Z experience, KR/PR, ST gunner role) and justify the expense vs. a younger player (cap-wise and talent development).

Now as a PS vet addition? They would be fantastic. But that's a major insult / hit to their ego and market value. So that's a non-starter.
JJ is still one of my favorites and I'd welcome him back with open arms.

All I ask if he leaves is that he goes to the AFC somewhere. After watching that guy get under the skin of defenses for years, I especially don't want him in our division.
Can't believe he turned down a 17 mil per year extension. Thank you for allow us to get Mike Evans

Maybe. Maybe not. I think many 49er fans may be overlooking just how original the Shanahan offense is. How it is designed to leave key wide receivers wide open on many plays. In other words, Kyle's playcalling made Deebo and JJ look as good as they were. Without Kyle's offense, however, they may not be the player or players we thought they were. Look at Washington as one example. Deebo was one and done there. That was a surprise to me.

That may also be why both are still shopping for new teams. Just a guess on my part. Nothing more.

Same. I wouldn't think he'd want to stick it to us cuz we certainly tried to bring him back but seeing him go to a division rival would be terrible. Don't want to stop rooting for him.
