2019 Draft: 49ers took a WR with the 4th pick in the second round. Some dude named Deebo. Anyone remember him? Third round, 3rd pick, 49ers picked up another receiver. Some dude named Jalen Hurd. I remember Hurd in the preseason of his rookie year. Shanahan was using him for dive plays and sweeps. Kid looked good. Then he got hurt. Never got better. 49ers kept Hurd on the roster for three seasons, yet I don't think he ever played a regular season snap. 49ers finally let him go. Hurd tried to make it back with a few other teams. Could never stay healthy.

As for Pearsall and how much patience Shanahan has with a player, the Hurd story should give you a bit of a blueprint. Pearsall is a different animal entirely because he did play last season and there were times he looked very good. But there were also games where he vanished. So? Who knows how long Pearsall's leash is.

As for JJ, if he doesn't sign with anyone next week, this could be a long wait for him. The 49ers may or may not have an offer on the table for him, provided JJ wants to take it. Then you've got kids on the roster like Jacob Cowing, Jordan Watkins and Junior Bergen who saw little, if any, playing time last season. Are they worth anything? Seems like this upcoming season may be a make or break deal for some of them.

My understanding is that our front office gives our free agents a number before they hit the open market. Thats the number, take it or leave it.

Deal make come off the table if we sign someone else.

If that is true, and you may be right, JJ may be holding out for a higher number.

Yes, I think this is the case but who knows.

Has to be.. probably asking 9ers to match also
JJ overvalued himself, which was predictable. A lot of other teams view him as a pesky blocking guy who doesnt get amazing separation and is slow.

I dont think that many teams are crazy about giving a 29 year old WR who is a middling WR2, who never had a 1k yard season, 25m+ per year multi year deal

How do you know this?

Definitely, the market has apparently spoken. Whoops
Sucks for him but if the Niners get him back at the number that works for SF that would be huge. I don't see his value as something worth overspending on but to keep someone in the system that has made so many clutch plays but is still the WR3 would be a big plus and allow even more flexibility for the draft.

Resign JJ.
Point Deebo in the other direction.

He did overvalue himself, but I think the market might be starting to reset for WRs. Way too many good WRs keep coming out of the draft every year. Evans also didn't do any favors for the remaining WR FAs with the contract he signed.

And if JJ does come back, no way are we going to pay him more than Evans..
Signing Christian Kirk makes it unlikely that Jauan will return.

Could be, but Kirk could be a camp body dependent on gtd money and the way camp goes

JJ wants double digits and WR1 status. He isn't returning.
