Maybe Tennessee where he would be real happy.

Don't really agree with this. Jennings was always better than his previous numbers indicated, but his opportunities were limited by the players around him. That's why I think you could make the case for having extended Jennings last year for $12-15 million and let Aiyuk walk. Don't get me wrong, I like Aiyuk, but I don't think he's a $30 million dollar a year receiver, whereas I could easily see Jennings in that 12-15 million bracket.

Aiyuk for $30 million is what is really breaking our cap. Jennings is well worth $15 million. I personally always thought he was much better than how we used him. He's an Anquan Boldin type. He has it all. Height, weight, speed, length, fierce blocking, high point the ball, dive on the loose ball, ball in the air is HIS, aggressive, physical, routes, hands. He just doesn't have straight line speed. But he was always wildly under estimated by our team, fans and other teams. When featured he proved what he could do. I always believed he could. Had he not been thrown out of the game he would have been 1,000+ yards and maybe 7 TD's (we give him maybe +1 more than he had). That's right on par with some Aiyuk years. He's a different player and does it a different way. It's not a speed guy. But everything else you could want.

He was always better than a #3 IMO. He's at least a high end #2.

I hear you, is there a wr on our team that has straight line speed that uses it in this offense? JJ is the truth, and when you look at other wr salaries he's got a point.

Will we wind up giving the three other WR's Chosen, Moore, Bourne, ect. over $20 million in combined salaries to make up for no JJ, or B.A?

lolwut? Dumb post of the day nominee right here.

Math skills required, I should have put a note on the original post.

Also I should note that the WR's we've added to the roster aren't playing for free.

Then look up their contracts and add them up. You think we're bringing Bourne in for 15+mil??

Also, even if we were paying multiple FA WRs over 20mil, which we aren't, JJ wants a multi-year deal of over 20mil/season. Do some thankin'.

How good is JJ if it takes three guys to replace him?

Still no math skills I see...

They mostly don't. Jennings is always open with his routes, hands and big frame. He just takes the ball away from people. He definitely has a point. He will get paid more. Just not by us. We over paid for Deebo and Aiyuk. Now one is gone and one injured. So they are reluctant. But Jennings is really a good player when healthy. Still underrated here on the WZ.

So we just don't get good wr's moving forward?

Deebo was a beast, best second round pick of the ShanaLynch era., B.A has worked himself into something nice. These two guys are proof of just how expensive wr's are in the NFL. We can treat the wr position like we treat the o-line position.

Sorry about my earlier nomination for dumb post of the day. I was wrong to be so impatient. The above is my new nomination.
If Jauan would take a $15m a yr deal over 3yrs I truly believe the 49ers would do that but he ain't getting $20m or more from us simple as that

3 years and $45 million is about what he can get in free agency and probably will. I would do that for the 49ers. $20 million + is too much. Especially considering Warner, Kittle, Purdy, Bosa, Aiyuk. We have a lot of big salaries now.
FWIW advanced analytics love Jennings. ESPN Analytics had him consistently high in his career - 9th best receiver in 2024. PFF as 14th best WR in 2024.

https://espnanalytics.com/receivers

So his agents pushing for more money is not a surprise. That Lynch was caving to any and all previous pay raise demand, did not help.

If we put our emotions aside of this whole debacle - JJ is a very good role playing WR. Specifically the third option, sometimes the 2nd option. We are better with him, without a doubt.

he signed a crappy contract, I thought it was crappy at the time it was announced. I don't like the route he took on trying to get a new contract - I think it made things way harder than it has to be and put the front office in an unnecessarily difficult position for future contract negotiations.

also, the team may have already written him off as this was his last season with the team. Similar to what they did with C Ward - they knew they didn't want to pay them market value and just was going to ride it out on last year.

who knows. I just want to know if he's going to practice or if we need to proceed like he isn't playing week 1.

We just unloaded a bunch of huge salaries. we should be able to do this it's a small contract compared to some of the salaries we just dumped.
