Best thing for Jennings is have another big year or semi big year. He can get 3 year for $45 million. $15 million a year. Not with this team. But it's out there for him. Maybe Tennessee where he would be real happy.

Don't really agree with this. Jennings was always better than his previous numbers indicated, but his opportunities were limited by the players around him. That's why I think you could make the case for having extended Jennings last year for $12-15 million and let Aiyuk walk. Don't get me wrong, I like Aiyuk, but I don't think he's a $30 million dollar a year receiver, whereas I could easily see Jennings in that 12-15 million bracket.

My guess is the 49ers are looking for more separation from that position this the money invested in Aiyuk and the pick in Pearsall. Jennings was with Deebo last year and we were dead last in the league in separation so he was a part of that. Purdy being a stellar QB Jennings put up great numbers but who knows how he would fare elsewhere? Not our problem as I wouldn't pay him but about $12M this year then let him walk this offseason and he can get paid in FA and we can get the comp pick

We have paid the QB and all our All Pro talents so we can't pay JJ All Pro money as well. We are betting Brock can get it done with any set of good WRs and JJ doesn't not have to be here for that to happen

Love the guy he deserves to be paid but we just can't afford to do it here

I don't think Aiyuk's money is why they don't want to pay Jennings $20M a year :)

I don't think he proved he was more valuable with last year. I think before last year he was an excellent WR3 and he's still an excellent WR3. $13M a year is the high end for a WR3. He wants to be paid like an average WR1 which he is not.
Lynch was quick to say Jennings wouldn't be traded. If he signs a deal with another team for more than $16M a year then the 49ers are virtually guaranteed to get a 3rd round pick for losing him.

The Deebo trade was low because of the amount of money he was owed ... Jennings doesn't have that issue, so if the 49ers can get an offer of a 3rd this week then I think they jump on it, but anything less is probably an easy pass.

i could be wrong but I don't see anyone giving up a third for him.

He is smart - sees the niners bad WR situation and shoots his shot.

Not just a 3rd ... a 3rd and a contract big enough to make him happy.

I don't think it was the WR situation so much as he knew his value was at it's peak now, and it's likely to go down when he ends the season back at WR3.
If it's true that he's asking for $20 mil plus then the 49ers are right to not give in. That's way too much for a player that had one good year. Good year. Not a great year. Players need to start getting a grip on reality and stop over rating their own value. He's a good piece to have in the offense but he's not a difference maker.
He traded yet?

Would if B.A or CMC would have taken this approach where would they be now? We are the most injury prone team I've ever seen.

We paid CMC, T.W, B.A, when they chose to go this route, so the precedent is already set.

CMC = star
TW = star
BA = star

JJ = good depth.

If this is the case, trade him for a 7th round pick. we can find good depth anywhere.

What did the Niners get for Deebo?

Thats the problem, you have to pay a ton of $ for wr, but if you trade them you only get 4-7 round picks in return.

The position is expensive with no ROI.
Get back to the team JJ. Go out and prove your worth on the field. Let's win a SB. Then go get your bag. Enough with the drama.

I think you're right.

However, I think how BA's contract situation played out put a bad taste in management operations for future deals.

I do think it has made the Niners more cost conscious and not wanting to give in every time a player wants a new deal.

The DBo resigning was also a factor. We didn't get our money's worth on that one, coupled w/BA's injury has put a lot of $$ out of circulation.
If the reports are true that Juan is seeking to be top 20 paid WR then the 49ers are certainly right to do what they're doing because the player is delusional. He's good but he's not a top tier guy.

Will we wind up giving the three other WR's Chosen, Moore, Bourne, ect. over $20 million in combined salaries to make up for no JJ, or B.A?

Math skills required, I should have put a note on the original post.

Also I should note that the WR's we've added to the roster aren't playing for free.
