He's not worth $20 million plus. But it's realistic he can get $15 million plus as a free agent next year. Especially with another big year. Maybe even without one. Lots of desperate teams out there. He just won't get it here. But the ask is too high.

That's way out of their price range now that they paid Aiyuk, Kittle and Purdy.

Yeah, this next week will be super interesting on if he practices. Hopefully he just caves and plays out the year or he comes to his senses and takes whatever bump the niners are offering and he tries to cash in next year.
i don't see the niners budging on a contract of that degree. All the guys we've caved on have been star players. Some of the best at their position in the entire nfl. I don't see them doing that with JJ, especially with how tight money is for next year

TBH, I was surprised that he signed the 2 year extension. I thought he would have got much more in free agency.
but he agreed to it. We can pay him huge cause he won't be the main target this year (unless we continue to get riddled with injuries). Pearsall is def #1. Jenning and Robinson will split the #2 & 3 role.
but realistically, Pearsall/CMC/Kittle will be the three primary options. Possibly even Brian Robinson. So it really doesn't make sense to make a huge commitment to Jennings.
let's just hope he practices and plays, so we can move on from this drama and focus on winning

I'm expecting them to sign Bourne and trade Jennings at this point.

He would get more in free agency and it was a mistake to sign. But nobody could predict 2024. He had a big year and now has proven to be more valuable. Best thing for Jennings is have another big year or semi big year. He can get 3 year for $45 million. $15 million a year. Not with this team. But it's out there for him. Maybe Tennessee where he would be real happy.

Honestly this time, just trade him already. These contract issues are annoying as f**k!!!!
Trade him for a 6th or 7th now, or let him sit out the year and get a 3rd or 4th for him as compensation. I know what I'd pick.
I wonder if they sign Kendrick Bourne would that make Jennings expendable? Jennings is a far better receiver but Bourne knows the offense and he's decent.

Kawakami is reporting the team doesn't want to do anything (in the context of his contract). I def agree they shouldn't entertain a long term extension really anywhere near his reported demands. I wouldn't be against giving him a short term extension with a meaningful pay raise. Maybe it's a nonstarter.
Either way I'd like to see him out there one way or the other. Not very confident in our WR room. At the same time, I also expect this season to be more of a transition year than a contending one, so I wouldn't think the 49ers are in a position where they need to overpay for short term gains.

My guess is the 49ers are looking for more separation from that position this the money invested in Aiyuk and the pick in Pearsall. Jennings was with Deebo last year and we were dead last in the league in separation so he was a part of that. Purdy being a stellar QB Jennings put up great numbers but who knows how he would fare elsewhere? Not our problem as I wouldn't pay him but about $12M this year then let him walk this offseason and he can get paid in FA and we can get the comp pick
We have paid the QB and all our All Pro talents so we can't pay JJ All Pro money as well. We are betting Brock can get it done with any set of good WRs and JJ doesn't not have to be here for that to happen
Love the guy he deserves to be paid but we just can't afford to do it here

I felt like giving him approx $3M in incentives would have sufficed but apparently I was way off. Lol
the way the salary cap is for us - we cannot afford to pay. Especially cause I don't believe JJ is on the long term projection. I think they anticipate BA, Pearsall, Cowing/watkins and then developing guys like Bourne/JJ on the backend.
honestly, I think this year is going to go better than most expect. As long as the defense improved and gels as the season goes on - I think we can be a problem in the playoffs (obviously assuming we stay healthy).
our offense can be really good, especially if Pearsall takes the next step and Brock plays the way he did with CMC.
I don't anticipate we are "dominant", especially in the first half the season, but if things go well - I think we can be a very dangerous team down the stretch.

Bourne just got off an injury and is much older in nfl years. JJ needs to show up by next week or we are trading him post Sept 1 if that date holds true for his pay. I think he needs to practice by Tuesday to get with the gameplan. This whole thing is too bad for Juwan, and his hard working reputation has changed to just another WR diva, but he doesn't have the stats of the other WRs, he just has the leverage that our team is injured and sub par at the position group.

Put him on the trade block and see how many teams are willing to hit 20mil per.

More than 20 mil per year, f**k that. That's like someone paying Chris Godwin about 40 million

It's incredibly rare for an NFL team to just up and pay a player extra money on the last year of their contract. Everything I've seen for money for Jennings was an extension. The one Kawakami reported as the 49ers offer was a 2 year extension at $13M a year ... presumably Jennings would get something more than half that money guaranteed and a large percentage for signing the deal. But that would then make him not a free agent at the end of this year.
This all comes down to the fact that Jennings and his agent knew that his market value would never be higher than this off-season. The problem is that the 49ers had him under contract and need him. Why would they trade him for a 6th round pick when keeping him would get them a better pick in the future?
