"3rd and Jauan" Jennings l WR Tennessee

CMC can line up at WR and probably be better than most.
It'll be interesting if JJ pushes this into the season. Hopefully the team finds a common ground, the guy deserves at least a few extra mil. Make it incentive laden at least.

really the trick to this kind of stuff is not making it appealing for other players to do.

C Ward talked about the niners paying others but not him last off season made him not give an eff about playing. I feel like fans are like "they're under contract so they should play 1000% and care about every snap" lol when in reality they're humans like us and have emotions.

Our WR is a dumpster fire right now but overall we still have weapons.
Kittle, CMC, Juice, Pearsall (that isn't a terrible option set of options). It can be a lot better and hopefully some young bucks show up and show out with this opportunity.

It's what I never understood about people online and elsewhere spouting off like that.

Haven't you ever had a job and actually worked somewhere?? If everyone else around you is getting paid, you ask for a raise and they say can't do it, you think that wouldn't affect your work product to some degree?

Only unlike a regular job, a player can't go interview for another team and immediately sign with them.

Anyhow, I agree the niners cant just keep paying people. That's how we got into a $90m dead money problem. Sad that JJ is getting the short end of the stick though, definitely deserves a pay raise

He has no leverage and I doubt management has the stomach. He extended last season.c

Yeah, it's kinda funny how some fans view professional athletes. Keep in mind, most aren't millionaires like some think. There are a lot of "thousand-Aires" in the nfl. Jennings has done well, relatively speaking to most people, but he has only taken home a couple mil total.
So if he's been super frugal and savvy with his money, which most players aren't, he has $3M to show for his whole career so far.
JJ has leverage in the sense that the team is nearly desperate for a capable WR. He's been lucky in the injury rash.

I think it would be fine to give him a couple mil in incentives. Either he earns it, which means he's playing at a high level. Or he doesn't and we don't spend the money. JJ actually deserves a slight pay raise, he's earned it.

i think the niners are betting that he won't risk this years pay cause it's the most he has made.

He "deserves"?

It's simple, Jennings knows he's never going to have more leverage and he's never going to have a better season than last season. They can't pay him based on him ever coming close to last season. If he wants that much they just have to wait him out.

Mooney Ward's performance wasn't about money, it was about his daughter dying.

If you want contract flexibility then you don't sign long contracts ... but players want the security of a longer contract. This is true in "actual" work too. If you sign a 5 year contract and there are no terms in the contract to re-negotiate it and no out then you are pretty much screwed. And if you half-ass your job then you will hurt your reputation.

He's at about $18M in money from the Niners (a lot of players make SOME money outside of the team).

If he signs for 2 year extension at $13M that's fine (for 2026 he'd be making just $2M less than Aiyuk) ... some people think he "deserves" more than $20M a year which I think is nuts.

A 2 year extension carries him through 2027 (one year past Aiyuk getting cut) ... that's still a lot of money for your 3rd or 4th WR.
Dude is acting way too much like a Diva for a WR3

Last year he was the #1 nearly all year. He's on track for at least the 1 or 2 gig for a majority of the year (assuming no one gets injured).

when you have a bunch of #2 guys, like Jaylon waddle, making $15-$27M, he probably is underpaid.

I don't think there is an argument to say that Jennings is paid proper market value. The niners just got him to sign a deal before he realized the role he was going to be vaulted into.

he assumed he would have that 3-4th option WR again and scenarios have moved him into first or second WR options.

this isn't the niners fault but Jennings has outplayed his current contract. I just don't see the the harm in offering him a few mil in incentives to smooth this over.

Does anyone have the numbers on how much money he would lose if he goes on IR? Typically players don't have full injury guarantees and lose "Gameday roster bonus" etc.

if he would lose at least half - might change his mind. That'll be interesting. I don't like the niners playing such hard ball with a guy who's been morning but awesome and a life saver but oh well.

Hard ball....he was extended last year.

Lol he signed on to get paid as the 3rd or 4th recieving option. A rarely used player, not the #1 or 2 WR. He came through for the team when it needed him and he vastly outplayed that Tiny deal.

go ahead, sign on to be an analyst at a company and then, because of company need, you're thrust into the top role in the dept and expected to keep analyst pay for 2 years cause that's what you originally agreed upon. Lol

why don't some fans understand that you sign an extension based on what your role is supposed to be and when you vastly outplayed that role, especially for the teams benefit, you want to be properly compensated for it. Especially when you're in the last couple years of your prime.

so odd. Lol
