Welcome to the practice squad, Jauan Jennings!

He won't clear waivers if we try to put him on the practice squad

No one will want this guy. He'll be safe in PS. Coaching staff may decide they don't want him either.

He had 11.2" hands I think that's still the record for receivers.

I wasn't old enough (or even alive lol) to watch Taylor but I thought he was known for his speed ?

No, he had real long strides - but, once he got going, he was gone.

No, he had real long strides - but, once he got going, he'd pick up speed.

John Taylor had superb acceleration. He coud go from full-stop to full-speed on a dime. It made hime lethal on KR/PR. One of my favorite players ever.

How about we see how it plays out and worry about it later?

I'd say he's pretty intriguing for a 7th round pick. On tape he's a player. Those guys tend to show up in camps/preseason and are tough to stash on the PS. Other GMs get scared off for the concerns and piss poor combine but if he shows up well with us and we try to stash him away...someone will more than likely grab him because he'd at the very least show he can play in the NFL(even if it's against backups)

Sorry, the whole point of your original post was that the current group of WR's lacked "aggression and physicality." and then you say you don't care about Taylor's aggression and physicality. You can't have it both ways. Look up availability and aggression in the dictionary. I think you'll find they have two very different meanings. The fact that Taylor was unavailable to play last season doesn't change the fact that when he does play he plays with a lot of aggression and physicality for a guy who is as small as he is.

You missed the point. All he's saying is aggression and physicality donesn't matter if you're aways injured and not on the field. Same way like his height, speed, acceleration, hands don't matter either.

The one clear fact about the Jennings pick is that Kyle is looking for tough football players, not skitter bugs.

This team is going to bully some guys next season.

And then... There is Dante

Just wait til Dante comes back from the offseason in Tiger mode.

Judging from his IG videos he's probably gonna be real good at COD and hanging out with shirtless dudes lol....oh and playing with cats.

Hope he proves everyone wrong, not holding my breath on that though

Sorry but I am not missing the point. His original argument was that the addition of Jennings added "physicality and aggression" to a WR crops that generally "lacked" those traits. My response was to list all of the receivers that we have on the roster who have already demonstrated those exact qualities, which seems to be a trait that Shanahan specifically looks for in his receivers. The fact that Taylor wasn't available to play last year doesn't alter the fact that when he is healthy he plays with physicality and aggression. It's an apples and oranges argument. The two aren't related in any way. I don't know how Taylor injured his back initially but the foot injury happened in training camp and then was complicated by a whole series of infections which kept him out the entire year. Just bad luck on his part. Up until then it had been frequently reported that he was having the best camp of any receiver on the roster.

Since he hasn't played for awhile I am including this clip of highlights as a reminder of what he brings to the team when he is healthy. I would like to note that you will never see him running out of bounds or sliding early to avoid a hit in any of the highlights shown here. What you also won't see is the clip of him punishing some safety on a down field blocking assignment and drawing a penalty flag on the guy who took a swing at him because Taylor was kicking his ass so badly. What you will see is him lowering his head into a crowd of tacklers and getting whatever extra yards in can manage. Physicality and aggression.

I like the Jennings pick and I think it's great that he is bigger than guys like Samuel and Aiyuk who are also both noted for their run after the catch abilities. It is, as I said, a trait that Shanahan seems to like in his receivers, not an exception to the rule.

Funny, first instinct was you meant Change Of Direction. And that still made sense. Haha

Is there a concern on the 53 that Hurd, Taylor and/or Jennings won't be able to make the 53? If so, I did a 53 and they fit rather easily. Kyle has clearly added an F combo Z position.

Besides his great hands (Jerry Rice said JT's hands were better than Rice's), Taylor was a jitterbug (despite his good size) who was tough to bring down. All butt and legs. Great punt returner who could cut on a dime.

i've seen Taylor's highlights of course but i'm just confused on the comparison to Jennings lol, but I guess I should go look again. Guess Taylor was a better tackle-breaker than i'm remembering. He was way faster than Jennings though, no?
