The disrespect this man getting from some of you is mind numbing. Had we won the SB; he would have been SB MVP. Not Aiyuk, Deebo, Purdy, CMC, etc etc. Easily the best WR last season with a healthy Deebo and better than Aiyuk before injury.

Also they are not "losing" cap space it is just accelerated to those years. And most of the time it was accounted for when the contract was signed.

I think a decent compromise would be moving the vested veteran deadline to training camp and/or preseason week. Possibly even a schedule, training camp is 25%, preseason is 50%, regular season is 100%. I would even include if an in game snap is taken, there is no longer offsetting language allowed.

A SB MVP award doesnt necessarily equate to a big salary extension nevermind almost.

Neither does one above average year of production.

I will ask......do you think the other 31 teams in the NFL would give JJ 17 mill per over 3 years?

Alll I know is these other WR's on the roster better have a lot of Dog in them to push JJ back on the depth chart. WR blocking is a big part of Kyles offense and JJ can do that has we all know and he can also catch pretty much anything thrown in his vicinity. And like 49ers808 said the disrespect for JJ is crazy.

The only disrespect I've seen is people upset with JJ wanting more money, not for the player he is.

I doubt 31 teams would but at least one out of those 31 times may.

Not sure if the AI summary for this is correct(seems too high) but it's saying NFL average WR salary is 26.6 mil. Like I said, hard for me to believe that number given the amount of depth WRs making very little even with some of these monster contracts to the top guys.

Regardless the WR salaries have certainly been sky rocketing with Chase hitting the $40 mil mark and most of the so called top 10 guys getting $30+.

Rashod Bateman seems like a good comp for JJ in a sense that he wasn't putting up big numbers until this past season and got rewarded for it. Now he got about $12 per but he also completely under performed his 1st round pick status.

JJ also adds things to the locker room which some teams pay extra for. The physicality and passion he brings is infectious and helps improve the overall team even when he's not getting the ball.

Also where did the $17 mil number come from? I have a feeling if we offered a Bateman like contract he'd go for it.

If you look at how he stacks up against former 49ers' best yardage seasons (excluding Aiyuk, Rice, Moss & Owens), Jauan stacks up pretty well. With a more pass-oriented offense and true #1 role he could have been at 1200+ yards. I would put Jauan's ceiling in the #4-5 range from this list, i.e. best fit is WR #2 but could be WR #1 in stretches. In any event, he is grossly underpaid, but I don't think the 49ers want to add too much more $$$ to the WR room.

  • Brandon Lloyd (1448)
  • Anquan Boldin (1402)
  • Torrey Smith (1128)
  • Michael Crabtree (1105)
  • Dwight Clark (1105)
  • John Taylor (1077)
  • Jauan Jennings (975)
  • Freddie Solomon (969)
  • Marquise Goodwin (962)
  • Kendrick Bourne (800)
  • JJ Stokes (770)
Give him a couple more million this yr and go from there

He is asking for 15-17 mill

Not asking for a couple. He wants money and term.

That might not be an option for him end of the day.

I'm sure some teams might want him but not as a #1 or even a #2. He's in a system now that takes full advantage of his skill set. He's not asked to do more than he's capable of. He knows the system. It's to his advantage to stay with the 49ers this year since Aiyuk is still a question mark and the rest of the receivers are mostly unproven. It's a chance for him to show his talent a little more.

His per target production went down last year. He just got more opportunities. He's not fast, he's not particularly athletic, he's just physical. He's a good player but is probably best suited as WR3.

Total yards isn't much of a measure of the quality of a WR.

I like JJ being a Niner and hope he stays, but people talking like he's a star are just nuts.

I think he's a decent WR for what he's asked to do. I think he's a better route runner than what people give him, but he's not some top end WR that isn't replaceable. He's very much in the same vein as Bourne.

I would give him a little extra cash this yr along with some sort of incentives. I would let him walk after this season and development the next dude.

Agreed. There's a reason he's trying to get paid right now. He knows he's not getting the same amount of opportunities this yr.
