He's worth $15 million easily. He's our best, most healthy and most productive WR. Big and physical and aggressive too. He has it all but straight line speed. $7.5 million is ridiculous for him. Pay him. With top guys now making $30, $32, $35 million and soon to be $40 million as the cap increases this is not too much. It's a good deal for him. 2 years at $15 million would be fair and he's worth that. There is no argument that he's not. As the cap increases and top guys start making around $40 million it won't even look like a bad deal. More like a steal.
The most I would offer is some incentives. They can't keep spending recklessly. They're already paying the price with Aiyuk and Deebo's dead money.

He way outplayed his contract last year. If he does that again this year, the question becomes will we want to pay him or will our youngsters be getting traction. We can't franchise him, because without speed, he'll never be worth that. It will be pay him a bunch, or let him walk for a comp pick. Or trade him now and see what we've got in our 2nd year players and others. Any chance Pitt would cough up a 2nd for a good #2? That would be a decision.

I'd be surprised if we got a 3rd. No way in hell a team gives a 2nd imo

Only got a 5th for Deebo

Jauan had more receiving yards last season than Deebo has had in any of his last 3 seasons.

I can't argue with that, but then, how much per year are you willing to pay vs losing him for a comp pick. After this year, he's a free agent.

15M even as a #3 he has shown up in the clutch year after year and is probably a top 5 blocking WR. Honestly I can see us lining him up on the outside and have Pearsall play inside as the slot. It's tuff because giving these WRs that keep holding out setting a bad precedent but also keeps biting us in the ass.

He'd get in a lot more block from the inside.

Agree
Is he worth R Bateman money? Newly signed contract extension averaging about $12.2M/ year.

Agree

Deebo is off the books next year and the cap hit for a new JJ deal would be miniscule this season. So after this year we would really only be paying 2 WRs. BA and JJ. And JJ at 15m/yr would be a bargain IMO

If JJ is the best WR on the team then the team is cooked.

He would have broken 1000 yards last year if not ejected. Keep growing. It's not a stretch he be the best on our team if his trajectory continues north year after year.

If he maintains his trajectory he should get 3500 yards this year since 2 years ago to last year his yards went up nearly 4 times.

Last year he got so many targets because the other targets were so sparse ... this year he's going to get a LOT less targets and he's playing out of position. Pearsall and Cowing should be better, Watkins, Bergen, and whoever else makes it out of camp. Aiyuk and Robinson are not likely to play for the first month but after that there will be even two more targets.

I think he might get 700 yards, but he's very unlikely to get more than last year, I think it's more likely he gets around half what he got last year.

He completely outplayed his contract last year. He has a bad ass swag about him like I have no problem tackling your ass to the ground if need be. He's a tough guy. He has grown each year and yes, Mr. Irrelevant says hello-you know how that can go, but he could turn into the best WR on the team. Give him $15m a year for two years and see how it goes. What's the deal this year? The largest form of his pay is some large lump payment on Sept 1. Not a roster bonus but something like that. Pay the man. This is new look Brock and WRs 2.0.

If JJ is the best WR on the team then the team is cooked.

Sorry to break it to you: he is.

You think he is ... doesn't make it true.

They should have it in the contract where by if the player hit certain output the previous year under contract, Their contract automatically renegotiated to compensate and reflect what they deserve market wise in future years.

Juan basically output more than double his 7.5 mil of last year. So if it's supposed to be 15 mil, they include another 7.5 compensation in guaranteed money for renegotiated contract.

Players don't have to be a dick with 'pay me or trade me' method. Less contentious all around.

So if the situation around a player changes dramatically they should automatically get a raise even though the team knows they don't have that value to the team going forward?

I like the method where the league pays players who dramatically outperform their contracts from the pool of total collected revenue vs paid out money and it's not part of the contract and doesn't count against the cap.

JJ has the best hands on our team. He is our most reliable WR to complete the catch. Find a way to pay him.

Take a look at his catch rate on targets.
2024
JJ 54.9% with 53% for his career
Pearsall 56.5%
Cowing 66.7%
Aiyuk was bad last year but the year before he was at 70.5% and for his career is 60%
Kittle 73.4%
CMC 52.6% but for his career is 55.6%

I would say there is significant evidence JJ does NOT have the best hands on the team.

It would be a shame to screw this up because we over paid on the last two WR deals

Aiyuk is getting less than $10M under this years cap. His big money doesn't start until 2027 but the terms allow him to be cut for relatively cheap before that.

Fr, really we'd probably get a comp pick letting him walk after this year similar to what we'd get for him.

Honestly I think that is a significant part of the 49ers plan for building the team.

JJ's better in the slot.

He is if you factor in playing history and injuries. The young ones may step up but that's an unknown. Right now he is the best available reciever. Not great news but statistically he is the best we have.
