In our offense, and with the money we had already allocated at the skill positions at the time, the argument is even stronger in my opinion.
Not saying Aiyuk didn't deserve that contract. He did. Just didn't really think it was the right decision for us.
That said, I also don't like that there were disagreements between the check writers and the HC/'GM' on how the team should be constructed. Even if I agree with the check writers in this case.

So we shouldn't have paid Trent or Bosa who held out into camp? What happens if he doesn't "show up" tomorrow? Is he officially dead to you? Should we move him?
He won't come into camp fat
He's not showing up tomorrow cuz it's for rookies(more concerned about Collins)
Maybe I'm being naive but I don't see JJ being a guy to hold out. Maybe he does a bit of a hold in at camp but he also has a competitive fire that will make it very difficult for him to sit back...maybe he holds in for a bit in the hopes injuries at the position make us desperate(which would be a sucky thing to do and hope for but also understandable)
I hope the team finds a way to make him happy. I'd be surprised at a contract extension but anything is possible.

What this situation tells me is that there are extremely short windows, if any, for "team-friendly" deals nowadays.
The moment a player/agent realize they're getting underpaid, is the moment a new contract will be requested. Doesn't matter when the previous deal was signed.
This team has made out like bandits on the JJ, Greenlaw and (to be seen but nonetheless) Lenoir extensions. Jennings is already asking for a raise, who knows what Greenlaw would have asked if he didnt tear his achilles in the SB, and Lenoir is TBD.
The same goes for great players whose contracts are frontloaded...once the no-guarantee years (ie, team-friendly portion of contracts) kick in, they will present ultimatums for new contracts, ie CMC and Trent.

I don't think the Niners would get much for Jennings. He's a nice piece but do other teams see hm the same way we do. He's a #3 receiver on this team when Aiyuk comes back. If he's asking for $15 million per then that's a lot for a #3 guy. Most 49ers that leave for more money don't do as well with another team. Kyle's offense is definitely player friendly.

This is a very tough spot for the Niners because they really need Jennings this season but they might not need him as much next season and beyond. Right now at this very moment he is the team's #1 WR but by midseason he could be the team's #3 WR and might fall further next season if Watkins and or Cowing develop nicely.

It is kinda high but with how often he comes in the clutch and his blocking I'd pay it. We'll probably wait and see our WR group in camp before making a decision

I would pay him. Maybe should have given him more and Brock less?

This is so true. I'm right there with you on the bold. This season is tough for me though because we have an easy schedule; SB is at home; and we got guys nearing the end of their career (Trent in particular)
I mean I guess if we did let JJ walk it would force them to see the young guys and we do have Robinson after suspension? We could always make an in season trade if we are having a good season and a WR is a missing piece a la E. Sanders. I'm more worried about the secondary to be honest

Juan looks like he is our WR 1. And he made all those great catches in the Super Bowl.

So because Jauan reportedly will request a trade (but hasn't actually done so yet) if the team doesn't sign him to a new deal, the Steelers should consider discussing a trade for him? Sounds like a bunch of reporting on nothing.

Just give him a 4 mil bump this year and call it a day. He can get overpaid in FA after the season

I'd just refuse to renegotiate with JJ until next offseason either play or pay. The Secondary's gonna be trial by fire. We know Demo, Green and Malik are solid to great. Just have to hope for major leaps from others.

Aiyuk is coming off a major injury with an uncertain timeline. We have a second year player with 1st-2nd round talent we hope will take big steps. A bargain free agent signing.
We're not exactly stacked at the position, and he's not asking for anywhere near elite WR money reportedly. Not sure how the team will handle it.
I mean that's why he asking for an extension or a trade right now.
we also at some point have to see what Ricky/Cowing/Watkins have as well.
unless they are completely on board with moving on from BA, I can't see them giving JJ what he wants right now
What is funny is that BA is making less than $10M this year :)

JJ all the way. Not sure what we need to do. Boy, another if we could roll back time. BA could hit the road too. I appreciate him but JJ has been showing more and more. JJ, Ricky, and the rook. New look 9ers. And George for a cherry on top.
