After that whole Aiyuk mess this just might end up in a trade.

Trading Jennings is the wrong move.
You can't pay everyone.

Its one thing to pander to your star players but you cant chase every entitled player with some leverage. If Juan is the make or break on this team we have much bigger problems.

JJ is going to be made an example. Wr3 who just signed a deal the previous year... They will let him sit all year.

JJ is not a guy to be made an example of IMO. He's one of the ultimate team guys and why I don't believe he will actually sit out when the games happen. He's got too much to gain and his competitive nature is too much.

And while your point is valid, he signed a 2 year deal last year, which means he's entering the last year of that contract. How many players have we seen push for new deals going into their final year of the existing contract? He's got leverage but so do the 49ers.

Need to find a middle ground and make this work.

From a character standpoint I agree with you in that he is the ultimate team guy.

The issue for him is he truly is a wr3 trying to ask for a deal after just signing one.

This puts him into position to be made an example of.

Because you already caved on Trent and McCaffrey in order to keep the crew in line you have to sacrifice a player at a position that doesn't hurt you too bad.

Jennings only had this year left, is a wr3, which we saw his peak last year. The teams literally hoping some faster receivers with bigger upside come and take his job from him.

They will stand fast. If you don't, you could get to a point where 4-5 players at once pull this I want a new deal thing, right before training camp, and it could seriously hurt the team.

One or two great players on occasion you can deal with. 4-5 in a single year and it's untenable.

You start caving to wr3 then you have to cave to rotational linemen next.

lol first off, hes not a WR3. Hes the best WR on the roster right now until Aiyuk proves he can return to form. Hes also the guy they throw to on big 3rd downs. Not Aiyuk, not Kittle. They target Jennings when they really need to convert.

Jennings got extended 1 year, but it wasn't considered a "new deal". He wants some security, and I think he's earned that after being an important part of the offense for years now.

The 49ers trading or letting Jennings sit to "make an example" would be a terrible move. Way to show your roster that working hard and doing everything the team needs after being a 7th round pick just gets you reprimanded.

Anyone with eyes saw how valuable Jennings has become. Shanahan knows it. If you make an example of Jennings for wanting a longer term deal than 1 year, Purdy is the one who will
suffer. If you want to make sure Purdy is worth that 265 mil, pay Jennings too.

Purdy just got paid "make everyone else around you better" money.
Would a team give us a 3rd for 3rd and Jauan?

I think it depends on what he is asking for salary wise. I recall earlier in the offseason folks figured around $15mill a season? Then the WR market went bonkers so who knows.
He's better than the deal he is on. That's not in question. Had he not been thrown out of the game he would have 1,000+ yards and 6 or 7 TD'S. Maybe he gets 1 more. Like it or not that's on par with some Aiyuk years.

Now we have another problem.

Not a chance in hell lol
Tired of this s**t. I say trade him
I like Jennings as a player. Very reliable and always seems to find the 1st down marker. I underestand why he wants more money. Who doesn't? I also see it from the 49ers side. You can't pay everyone and that's the biggest problem. If this was the 80s before the cap it would be easy but now every new contract requires an adjustment to someone else on the team.

The consrant demands for more money by players and agents is going to lead to a big discussion and possible problem the next time the players and owners sit down to negotiate a new deal. Maybe they end up with salary scales like so many union jobs have. Some type of min/max structure based on position and tenure. I don't know but something has to be done. Players aren't asking for 5 or 10% raises. They are often demanding doubling their salaries or more.

Shanahan's mistake in the Aiyuk deal was making BA say yes at the last minute. He should have let Lynch go forward with the trade.

Now we have another problem.

Aiyuk is easily the more talented of the two but the 49ers have already pushed their chips in on BA in terms of contract. That deal is looking like a bad one so far but it is what it is and having BA under the contract he is may cost the 49ers Jennings. I think Jennings fits better as a solid WR2 but he's not best suited for a WR1 slot. That's more than he's being paid right now. Depending on what Juan Jennings is looking for, perhaps the team might be able to work something out in the WR2 range with a short term deal. Beyond that, the 49ers shouldn't be invested heavily in JJ.

And I would also add that the team has supposedly invested heavily in its WR's in recent drafts. If they are not in a position to move on from Juan Jennings, should his contract demands be too steep, then Lynch and Co has some 'splaining to do.

49ers have the leverage in this case. JJ has to shine in a contract year to get the $15M+ on the open market. 49ers will get max value on the field this year and a future comp pick. This is the likely outcome since they typically let their 2nd tier stars walk in free agency.

I thought we just extended him this offseason? Or was that last offseason? I'm so confused I thought he was one of the good guys who was happy

Well, that depends on what he is asking for now doesn't it? If he wants 30M per year then yeah, trading him might be a good move, depending on what we can get for him.
