Every article about him says he is slow with a 40 time of 4.72. Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this but a 4.5 time is considered fast, is a quarter of a second in 40 yards really that big of a difference? For a guy that is 6'3" that seems pretty fast to me.

Very interested to see this guy play. Can't wait for the season.

Rice ran very crisp routes. The way he comes out of breaks without breaking stride. Also, how a receiver sells a play even if it is a run or if he isn't the first read is very important, the DB doesn't know what to expect. One thing about Rice, Walsh said was that he hardly say him caught from behind. So the thing is, when you put on the pads, how much does it slow you down? Perhaps his 40 time would be the same if he had the pads on. Anybody that was put on the pads knows how if can affect you physically, even if you are a pro.

That's why I never understood why they run the 40 and other drills without the pads, they should make them run with the pads, although some may start trying to cheat by wearing lighter pads that they don't use. Some players may wear more padding for protection in real games.

In the videos, you don't see him separating much, but he does fight for the ball. Even when the DB has his hands on the ball he rips it out. One of them was a TD. The thing about all the niner's receivers is that although they can all run after the catch. Hurd and Jauan compared to Deebo and Aiyuk are like thunder and lightning. The first two may side step you, but will more likely pummel you. While the other two will shake and bake and run by and pass you.

True, Jerry was so smooth. Plus that conditioning, he never slowed due to fatigue. Jauan physically reminds me of TO kind of. Seems like the WR group will be far deeper now. Hopefully McKinnon will be good to go, to help make the offense even more unpredictable.
What are the early odds that he makes the team? Is he a practice squad candidate?

The slide Probably had to do with this:

It doesn't look intentional to me. He wasn't even looking down

If they don't bring in anymore receivers I think he makes it. I also wouldn't depend on the healthy of Taylor and Hurd, so I think his chances are even greater. Regardless, he won't be hitting the market, if anything he'll get some kind of phantom injury and end up on IR.

We have 55 spots. If he's mentally stable, I have him penciled in before our 2 previous picks.

Lmao at around 3:40 he runs over a DB for a TD and then as the guys laying there JJ sticks the ball on the dudes stomach and goes on to celebrate

People really get excited and put a lot of importance on the 40 yard time but I never thought they were that important. 40 yards is all about the start. If you get that quick start you can probably have a good 40 time. You can see this in track where the indoor 60 yard sprinters are often not the best 100 yard guys and the same for 100 vs 200. The actual speed that they run when playing is what really counts. That can be affected by decision making. If a player hesitates or isn't precise in his routes he will look a lot slower than a guy who runs smooth and doesn't hesitate. This is the great equalizer and the reason that the 40 times are for show more than anything. If only the guys with the best 40 times were playing there would be a lot of good players sitting on the bench.
Hurd replacement.
Who thinks this guy could be the steal of the draft in 3 years??? If this guy has his head on straight watch out. He plays with a physicality you can't teach or learn. Maybe he can punk Pettis into being good. Damn I wish there were an offseason program for this guy. Screw his 40. Running over people is just as good as running by someone. If If if I know but if Hurd is good and healthy and this guy is right the physicality of our offense with Aiyuk, Kittle and Deebo will be bully like. Interested to see how he develops but I got a gut feeling this kid can play.
