final fair offer. he may be 38, but hes the best player they have on the line by a country mile. I dont get why they dont just do a fully gtd year by year with him. would be easier

I imagine Trent is wanting to stay and compete with the team he's spent years with. It's not ideal to switch up cultures and teammates at 38.

I actually think there is a good chance Trent is bluffing. He loves Kyle and the only reason we got him back then for peanuts from Washington is because Trent loves Kyle.
He wants guaranteed money as any premier guy with no guarantees left on the contract. Problem is of course this is happening way too often and it looks more and more like extortion and holding the team hostage every year.

Trents just being smart. He seemingly has the leverage here. 9ers just trying to be careful here as adding years is risky if the player retires. Ultimately, probably add a low wage 2nd year and convert most of salary to a bonus and spread that out.
