I was looking at his contract. Doing a new contract would likely be in the interest of both parties. TW is going to hit the cap for 35m next year and 37m the following year (he's around 10m this year). 2026 is arguably for paper only as hit hits the cap for 8m if he's cut. So give the man a 4 year contract with some guaranteed to make him happy and spread the cap hit a bit so it doesn't hurt the team long term.

One of the few negatives with this FO is struggling to get multiple big deals done at once. They basically take it one player at a time. I'm actually more worried with Trent than I am BA. I doubt Trent just decided a couple weeks ago to hold out. This had to be an issue for a while now, but that's just my opinion, who knows...

I don't understand why it was so easy to redo McCaffrey's contract & not Trent's?

Are they not really similar situations?
CMC wants to win
Maybe in the next CBC they can eliminate contracts greater than two years. They don't mean anything anyway.

I agree. Players can easily hold out and demand more money or a trade. They almost always win so salaries just keep rising. It only takes one greedy owner with too much money to pay these guys what they ask for to trigger salary escalations all over the league. The team is legally responsible for whatever the contract terms are but to the players it's meaningless. Now players are demanding and getting more and more upfront or guaranteed money. This is happening all over sports and even in college. Players no longer see Xs and Os. They see $ signs.

Agreed but tbh my gut tells me this is exactly it. TW is about the money.

I am between laughing and being depressed because we saw this com ing one way or another and this is why I kept on about pounding o line early and often this past draft, but nope.

Kyle said at the start of camp they had considered TW would do this, but were hoping he didn't and unfortunately he did.

I have no idea why they take these SB run crippling risks. For all the disagreeing people have on here it's fairly unanimous TW is the most important piece and they should have started addressing that asap.

tbh I cannot see us winning it all without TW, but if we cave then it's this year and after that the roster gets blown up.

She was a legit source on TW when he was in Washington. I think she knows him or someone close to him
I guess he is cool retiring?
The season is over if he doesn't come back. We are finished.

Definitely not cool, if he spent all his money already

They do if they get restructured. Also there's a difference in signing a FA to a brand new deal and giving a player an extension that's still under contract.

I was all about developing a top end OT prospect.

Yeah he's all about making sure he gets his last paid day and there's real money tied to it. That's what happens when you have a ton of good talent on one team.

I wonder what NE would offer him. :-)
Is guaranteed money just guaranteed for injury and team roster cuts, or is it also guaranteed for retirement?

If it's even guaranteed for retirement TW is really trying hard to **** us
