Huh?

Did not know Warner was asking 23 million in a non contract year.

So C, OG RT are not critical. Based on how our OL played this year i would say.....yes it is.
We were playing with back up to back ups at those positions. Richburg, McGlinch is still under contract. Sign TW and we only need to worry about RG and some depth at OL

Huh?

You saying that TW doesn't matter to how good our OL is because the OL wasn't good this year is the same as saying Warner didn't really matter to our team success because we still sucked this year.

TW had a fantastic season, and along with Laken Tomlinson were the only spots on the OL that weren't getting worked. If we let Williams walk not only did we waste the assets we traded for him, but the OL
becomes a dumpster fire that will get Jimmy, Watson, Beathard, or any other QB we run out there killed.

Were going to have to pay him, but its ok to pay up for a franchise LT.
Mc Wiff and IR Richy are not going to cut it anymore. Not to mention RG.

So instead of being worried about RG, You want to find better players at LT,C,RG and RT.. ?

A franchise LT is not the key to a successful OL. It is having quality players at each position on the OL

If we have plenty of cap space and can sign TW without sacrificing the rest of the OL unit and more broadly other important positional needs then go for it.

I dont think we have the cap space to do it all.

You realize that a crap OL = a crap team, correct?

Signing TW does not decide whether we have a good OL. He started this year and........our OL sucked.

Thats like saying Fred Warner played all season and we still went 6-10 so he isnt worth big money.

Um not even close......

Your analogy skills need work.

Richburg is meh and never plays (I haaaaated the signing when it was made and he's lived up to my expectations) and McG is also meh, but at least he rarely misses games.

Let Trent Williams go, get a 3rd rd compensation pick and save $23 million.
Sign a cheaper vet FA tackle for $8-10 mil and draft a good OT, OG, C

This except now you have the option of free agency to improve your OL as well.

We have 1 CB signed next year. And an injury prone QB, and the OL is also not good. Letting TW walkwould be a really dumb move.

This. I'm wondering if the same people who are in favor with letting Trent walk criticized the front office for trading Buckner.

I did not. I don't know why they paid Armstead but I didn't mind trading away Buckner. DTs aren't worth 20M.

Every other situation where you see a high-end player leave it's because of some sort of fractured relationship with the team. But we trade for him, support him, praise him, show nothing but love for him and he does this? f**k him. I don't want those types of guys. It's like having to compete for your wife. Shouldn't have to. Let him walk, tell the world how disappointed you are in him and then use the money elsewhere.

Can't blame the guy for getting what he can. This is last big contract before he's done. If second will pay you, take the money. Just hope it's not is at that price tag.

we don't have the cap space to sign another OL like you want to do

a franchise LT is key. We were not even close to having our starting IOL this past year. Instead of blowing up our OL, let them heal up and sign TW and draft Depth

Great point.
I miss Buckner, he was a great player for us, and he did have pass rushing skills from the inside, so he wasn't your run of the mill DT. But his price was not something this organization could handle, for sure. I'd pay him his asking price if he was an Edge rusher like Bosa, but not the DT position, as you said.

You think adding a RG fixes everything?

Its pretty clear the OL needs work across the board except for LT. Problem is that our LT wants too much. Signing him makes it much more difficult to improve the other 4 positions on the line including depth.

Agreed. Plenty of successful teams don't have an elite LT. You know what those teams do have? QBs that are elusive and make the defense step back because of their deep threats. A more pocket aware QB that can run can do wonders for a line.
Re-sign Trent, figure out whatever it was that happened to McGlinchey, get a C that can stay healthy and we're in a reasonable spot.

I'd take that with a QB upgrade.

That's a lot to figure out in one off season though.
