Honestly, was watching Get Up this morning and Tannenbaum brought up an interesting option:
Up Aiyuk's base from 14M to 20-21M for 1yr, and guarantee not to franchise in 2025
This gets Aiyuk his money, saves face for everyone, and gives him the opportunity to play for whoever he wants in 2025. At this point I'd rather have him for this big push for SB return and allows us to have money ready to pay Purdy in 2025.
Chat Sports suggested that too, and it's the dumbest idea ever. There is literally no point in doing that. Aiyuk is UNDER CONTRACT. He can choose to honor it, or sit out and lose money. This idea would be like buying a new car...paying $30,000 over asking price...and promising to never use the warranty.
Right. So Aiyuk makes more money. The Niners get NOTHING when he leaves. And they gain nothing new for 2024 since he is already under contract.
lol
No it wouldn't! It would just encourage more players to act this way, knowing how the team caved.

You know cold in PA is different than cold in NV
He's lived in the snow, I don't think he cares much about doing it again since he has done it already.

always gonna get screwed in a forced trade scenario
Yeah, but technically they're weren't forced. He's under contract. For whatever that's worth….apparently not much
teams generally don't keep players that don't want to be there. B.A forced the trade by saying trade me as well as by saying I want what i'm worth, not what your willing to give me.
I can't blame Aiyuk if that's his position. You should be paid for what you are worth. But as an employee you are paid for what the positon is worth, not *your* worth. Unfortunately for the 49ers the WR market exploded on them. Not their fault. I still think there is a chance to retain Aiyuk, but it's clear he wants more money and my optimism is really low now on keeping him - considering the current WR market. I still have hope though.
The market determines the players worth, but we are dealing with humans not computers so it is what it is. I do blame the 49ers for not knowing what was coming, the NFL is a business not a guessing game. We supposedly over paid Kap & Jimmy G because we knew the QB market would explode and those deals would look like steals, so we can't now turn around and say they didn't know. WE reset the RB market by extending CMC, so our front office are not victims here.
Now I wonder what this means for Trent? Without him we are just a regular team.
I don't know. Look, if they stink it up with s**tty compensation in return, I am with you. But, they played this thing about as well as they could. No one is clairvoyant, people can overpay, underpay, and get it right, and of course, get it dead wrong. I think the X factor is that we talking about people with egos; if anything, maybe they underestimated Aiyuk's need to feel like and be paid like a top guy?

Yeah. Keeping Aiyuk would be a definite distraction to a team doing a super bowl run. Once an employee doesn't want to work for you, you lose more than you gain in any trade situation. Sucks, but KC lost Hill and still managed to win one. We'll see what happens here, but the season will go on.

The fact that they were trying to trade Brandon Aiyuk for Kendrick Bourne tells you all you need to know about this "deal." I realize the Patriots dropped out. But that was originally reported at the time.

Dry cold is vastly different than wet cold, my man. Both can be nasty.

He better be. Pittsburgh's OL is the only thing I like in terms of trading.
I wanted Cooper

Same level of motivation as every other player post-contract year. A virtual lock to have a disappointing season

He's from Reno, but as someone who currently lives in Reno and has lived in the mid-west, the winters in the mid-west are a lot different. They're much, much colder.
I don't think players care about cold, nothing warms the body more than $30 million per
He has experience in snow, its not like he's from Florida.
