It's up to Aiyuk if he wants to be released he'll have to report. That being said I don't think it's wise to have this looming large dead cap hit that can show up randomly. We have positioned our self pretty well if we play this game however
If he doesn't show up to any of the preseason stuff, the Niners could put him on the Did Not Report List and void all of his 2026 salary, but still maintain his rights until his contract is up. I'm sure the NFLPA would pitch a fit, but this is a move they could make. The team has all of the leverage, and I would for sure do it if he failed to report.

I hope he's stupid enough to stay away for the mandatory stuff. His best chance to get bounced early is to show up and make things uncomfortable.

He can't show up and act like nothing happened. There's a reinstatement process. Almost like a retired player coming out of retirement to play

Exactly. As soon as he were to report they would just release him, going straight from the Left Squad List to being off the roster. His contract wouldn't trigger and be forced on SF in that process.

Why do these people take 41-minutes to state something that could be easily stated in one minute or five? That's what I want to know. I got through 20-seconds of this. That's it.

Are you sure? I feel like that would have be reported at that time if that were the case. If that did happen at the beginning of the season that'd make the situation even stranger, still showing up knowing we voided his guarantees then disappearing mid season. I wouldn't put it past Aiyuk doing something like that though

I tried to tell you this a few months back. Cited multiple articles about it.

He didn't ghost the team completely until November, when it was leaked to the public that they voided his guarantees in July. In a press conference following the news, Shanahan had said Aiyuk was in the building the previous Friday.

A month later in early-mid December they placed him on the left-squad/reserve list and Shanahan stated he hadn't seen him in a month.

Obviously if he had ghosted the team earlier, he would have been placed on the reserve list earlier.

Pretty sweet to have that news leak and have Aiyuk completely cut ties with the Niners right when we were in the stretch run for the season and in the hunt for the 1 seed.

I mean, with inflation, might not be a bad idea to toll his contract a couple years.

Interesting point, still not a fan of pushing back the inevitable dead cap out of spite. Rather just get it out of the way, that being said I am enjoying that the 9ers are not making it easy for him

Oh, I was joking. I don't think the team would or should hang on to him beyond this offseason.

I would keep his ass sitting at home as not reported and not paid until he retired or reported and then I would fail his physical for being fat
BA made bad decisions and nobody except himself knows why. In any case, after his holdout and before he was injured he was not playing well. Big contract, married had a kid, then he got injured. Maybe he's just not focused on football. I don't know but I don't think he'll resurrect his career no matter where he goes. JMHO. I believe he will sign somewhere else get another check or two and probably retire sooner rather than later. We shall see
So lets say this drags on until its time for him to either show up or get put on the "no show" or whatever you call it list. I assume that date is mandatory mini camp or is it training camp? What happens then, does his salary kick in and that would force his release?
