Which former Niners could the team have kept instead of signing this guy?

If only we didn't low ball at 26M to begin the negation… Maybe none of this would have happened

If he plays NFL football next year, I would bet $100 that he will sign in division with seahawks or rams which ever gives him a one year prove it contract to stick it up to ShanaLynch. Clearly he doesn't care about the money it will be his revenge tour.
If not he'll be signed for the vet minimum by another team running the same kind of offense that will be able to plug him during jury training camp.

They chose not to sign Hufanga because of injury concerns. He had 2 major injuries in successive seasons that caused him to miss 17 games. His play was also inconsistent. Great at run support and he seemed to always be in the right place to get an INT but he also got beat a lot because he took bad angles. Plus he isn't very fast so once a receiver gets past him he has trouble staying with him. With Purdy's impending extension they decided it was best to not give him the kind of money he was seeking.

lol anything to place the blame on the FO. his attitude took a nose dive prior to negotiations. he was already checking out after the SB loss.

No #1 WR is worth 26M per. The position is wildly overvalued right now.

Nah, he is going someplace that will feed him the ball as the #1 priority, rather than just beating the 49ers. Of course, that could be the Rams, except Stafford would be 40 by the time BA gets into a long-term deal. I wouldn't bet on a QB with a bad back at the end of his career if I wanted to put up numbers.
Until further notice, Washington is destination #1.

the league hasn't processed contracts due to worth in decades. it currently operates under a going rate model. the next contract will be worth more than the previous in most cases when dealing with the top player on a team at his position.
