That's wrong. He never hit FA so he wasn't in negotiations with any other teams.

No you're wrong if you believe teams weren't negotiating with him

You both are wrong, teams notified Lynch they were interested and that's how Aiyuk knew there was outside interest and possibilities of a trade

Come on now does anyone have any reading retention? In August of 2024 after HE asked for a trade HE was granted permission from the niners to seek a trade. And his agent did just that and after the niners agreed to trade him HE ran to Shanahan and begged him to stop it. Member? You member?

Although Grant and his teenage buddies are annoying t**ts (who probably troll/post here)... he still has to provide competent content for Sports Illustrated..

So he did a timeline...although left out stuff regarding initial negotiations..

1. The front office felt Aiyuk's price tag was too expensive and wanted to trade him, not extend him, back in 2024. But Aiyuk vetoed trades to the Browns and Patriots, and Kyle Shanahan insisted the team keep him. And so the front office acquiesced to Shanahan and gave Aiyuk a four-year, $120 million contract with $45 million guaranteed at signing.

2. After Aiyuk signed his extension and before he injured his knee, the front office decided that it would trade Aiyuk after the 2024 season. The 49ers had instant buyer's remorse.

3. The 49ers tried to trade Aiyuk this past offseason when he was injured so they could avoid paying him a $22.855 million option bonus, but teams weren't interested. When asked at the NFL Combine if the 49ers were shopping Aiyuk, general manager John Lynch didn't say no. He said the team has a difficult financial situation it must address.

4. Brandon Aiyuk wrote a post on YouTube acknowledging that the 49ers tried to trade him during the offseason when he couldn't even walk

They was talking bout trading me while I was off percocets /muscle relaxers and peeing in a cup by my bed! Couldn't walk for 10 weeks ain't nobody trading for me

https://m.youtube.com/post/UgkxLehgX64DkrQcNau7ggjcV7NP1oao8MqU

5. The 49ers voided the guarantees in Aiyuk's deal in July to avoid paying him another $24.935 million bonus in 2026 because he violated some technicality in his contract. The 49ers haven't said exactly what Aiyuk did, but revealed that he missed meetings in the offseason and implied that he didn't rehab his knee the way they wanted him to. The team still hasn't medically cleared him to return.

6. The 49ers seem to want Aiyuk to play without those guarantees this season so they can showcase him and possibly trade him. Kyle Shanahan in particular said he still hopes Aiyuk can get cleared and play this season.

7. Aiyuk doesn't seem eager to play. He seems to want to get released so he can pick his next team

Kick the tires so to speak. I just do not think it will mean much. I have a feeling that BA's best days as a pro football player are behind him. I have no proof of this. It's just a feeling.

Wouldn't be surprising given the injury he suffered.

It would be interesting if Yuk played for Washington at the expense of not resigning Deebo who I understand will be a free agent Next season. Do the Wash fans and organization value Deebo enough the way he wants to get paid to stay?

Aiyuk requested the trade, here you go: https://www.nfl.com/news/brandon-aiyuk-requests-trade-from-49ers-as-wr-seeks-new-contract

You mentioned the attempted trades to NE and CLE, while conveniently omitting why those trades were attempted. Simply saying the FO tried to "trade Aiyuk, not extend him" is a factual, yet incomplete piece of information. Yes, they did in fact try to trade him and not extend him, but not until their contract extension negotiations reached an impasse in which Aiyuk's camp chose to request a trade.

Come on, man.

2nd. "Ipmasse" because the FO ignored Aiyuk/agent's attempt to start negotiations.

This is in the link you provided...

The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver has requested a trade, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported on Tuesday.

Aiyuk's request comes after an offseason filled with unsuccessful attempts to reach an agreement on an extension with the 49ers, who have been unwilling to engage in negotiations since May, per Garafolo.

Why haven't they just put him on season ending IR? What's the point of making it seem like he will join this team this year when we know for a fact he won't?

I don't know all of the contract rules and such, but maybe it has something to do with that?

I must say, this is an excellent question. Speculation: Kyle and John were holding the door wide open for Brandon? Just in case he wanted to return for a game or two to show off his skills? It's a really good question. I have no answer for it.

only reason to do the paperwork of moving a player from PUP to IR would be if the team was releasing or trading the player. the Niners are doing neither during this season.

OK, I'm back on my old account. Thank God for the mods :)

First: I think when you copied and pasted the article with the preface that it was presumably competent content for SI, you indicated that you were generally in agreement with said article, no?

Second: You noted the team ignored Aiyuk's attempt to start negotations, although the text you underlined from the NFL.com article indicates they were unwilling to engage since a past date (May 2024). I believe there is a difference between (1) never starting negotations and (2) not engaging in negotiations after a specific juncture in the process, the specific reason for which is unknown to fans. IIRC, the general understanding was the disagreement had something to do with Aiyuk's asking price.

I was just saying I wasn't trying to purposely omit anything.

We'll see what eventually comes out though, again I don't feel either is innocent in this.
Aiyuk has been a bad contract. $2M per catch won't cut it. We need to set our price and once the thresholds have been crossed we need to trade players or make them play out their deals past a start of training camp dealine. No negotiations with holdouts after that point and keep it business

I'm pretty sure the team doesn't have to put him on IR since he's still on the PUP and not officially on the 53 man roster.
Every week Kyle or John gets asked if Aiyuk is close to returning to practice and the answer is always not yet. At this point does anyone really think we'll see hom on the field this season? He certainly wouldn't be in any kind of game shape. Time to just move on from him and chalk it up to another bad WR contract.

It was made clear at the time the injury occurred that BA would likely miss the entire 2025 season.

In spite of all the BS reports over the past year I believe the initial assessment was always true.

An injury that bad often takes more than a full year for recoveey and sometimes players are never the same. It wasn't the usual clean ACL.
