Brandon Aiyuk has been CLEAR he wants Jayden Daniels feeding him bigger loads than what he was getting under Kyle Shanahan.

People wondered at the time: "Why did the #49ers sign Kendrick Bourne?"
— 49ers & NFL News 24/7 (@49ersSportsTalk) November 22, 2025
They just traded for Skyy Moore, have Pearsall, Jennings, Robinson, Watkins, MVS, Cowing & Aiyuk eventually returning. Crowded room
Simple answer:
The Niners knew for months Aiyuk wasn't coming back. #FTTB pic.twitter.com/EO68epYSJ4

I guess the whole "every player in the NFL wants to play for Kyle" is no longer true.
I don't think it's about Kyle and more about the FO…but you know that doesn't fit your narrative
BA has always been a bit of a pain. In his rookie year, Shanahan had to get on him hard about his training and practice habits. He did respond but it may be that BA never felt comfortable with Kyle. He accepted them because he knew that was the only path to money. Now he has received a LOT of money, enough that he can raise his middle finger to Shanahan and go his own way, whatever that is.
So the 49ers holding Brandon Aiyuk out purposefully to avoid paying injury guarantees plus Aiyuk not being seen since early season after his guarantees were voided makes so much more sense now.

He could've been playing since week 5-6 but instead we get a lost season… https://t.co/jaCe9PzY3j

I think the 2026 contract guarantees were voided for a more specific disciplinary reason and "he didn't show up to meetings" is just a cover-up. What the real reason is is anybody's guess, but it would be extremely unfair to even speculate it.

Interesting revelations from Coach during today's news conference.
1. This contract stuff with BA took place in JULY. It's now late NOVEMBER. Nobody on the team or in the FO said a word about this.
2. The 49ers are very, very, very good at not letting juicy tidbits leak out here and there.
3. So why did it leak yesterday? My guess, and it's just a guess, is that the 49ers decided it was time to leak it out.
4. WHY? And WHY NOW?

You have no idea what role, if any, Kyle had in the voiding of the contract. What we do know is that Kyle said it was all business and contract stuff that he has nothing to do with.
What we do know is that BA has implied, rather strongly, that he feels underused on a run first team in San Francisco.
