I would trade Aiyuk for a kicking tee if offered. The money, the injury & mostly the attitude. No thx. WR's are a dime-a-dozen these days.
You're certainly welcome to your opinion but that last part is hard to take seriously when this team hasn't had a proper WR1 like Aiyuk since maybe TO.
Oh, I agree with you. For a million years it felt like great wideouts were rare but nowadays it just feels like the opposite to me. They're everywhere now, whether through the draft, free-agency or flipping a mid-round pick for one.
I don't think there are more great receivers. It's just the way the game has changed. Teams are passing more so WRs get more touches and naturally more yards and TDs. Rule changes that don't allow contact after 5 yards have helped too. Then we have those sticky gloves that make catching the ball easier. Add all those things together and we have more yards for WRs.
I think last year's class is kind of muddying up the picture for some people.
We haven't had a WR1 like Aiyuk in like 20+ years. Teams like the Steelers were dying for one.
If you look at the top 10 WRs(per receiving yards) from last year you had
Ja'Marr Chase
Justin Jefferson
Brian Thomas
Drake London
Amon-Ra St Brown
Jerry Jeudy
Malik Nabers
Brock Bowers
Ceedee Lamb
Ladd McConkey
First of all...holy LSU Batman. Top 3 guys all LSU, Malik gives them 4 in the top 7
One common theme among these guys? Targets. The average in targets is 150 per each one. Aiyuk's highest targets were in 2022 where he had 114.
Another thing in common? Almost all of them were first round picks. St Brown and McConkey only guys selected in round 2+, outside of those guys everyone else was at least a top 23 pick.
So yes you can find some really good WRs but you have to be in position to take them and some luck sometimes too.
Common theme.
...zero Superbowls or even playoff games. An A list WR is not a must.
