You're certainly welcome to your opinion but that last part is hard to take seriously when this team hasn't had a proper WR1 like Aiyuk since maybe TO.

Oh, I agree with you. For a million years it felt like great wideouts were rare but nowadays it just feels like the opposite to me. They're everywhere now, whether through the draft, free-agency or flipping a mid-round pick for one.

I don't think there are more great receivers. It's just the way the game has changed. Teams are passing more so WRs get more touches and naturally more yards and TDs. Rule changes that don't allow contact after 5 yards have helped too. Then we have those sticky gloves that make catching the ball easier. Add all those things together and we have more yards for WRs.

I think last year's class is kind of muddying up the picture for some people.

We haven't had a WR1 like Aiyuk in like 20+ years. Teams like the Steelers were dying for one.

If you look at the top 10 WRs(per receiving yards) from last year you had

Ja'Marr Chase
Justin Jefferson
Brian Thomas
Drake London
Amon-Ra St Brown
Jerry Jeudy
Malik Nabers
Brock Bowers
Ceedee Lamb
Ladd McConkey

First of all...holy LSU Batman. Top 3 guys all LSU, Malik gives them 4 in the top 7

One common theme among these guys? Targets. The average in targets is 150 per each one. Aiyuk's highest targets were in 2022 where he had 114.

Another thing in common? Almost all of them were first round picks. St Brown and McConkey only guys selected in round 2+, outside of those guys everyone else was at least a top 23 pick.

So yes you can find some really good WRs but you have to be in position to take them and some luck sometimes too.

Common theme.
...zero Superbowls or even playoff games. An A list WR is not a must.

The vast majority of WRs on his list are on teams without difference makers at the QB position. Of the two who do have that kind of QB, one of them has been in the Super Bowl and the other was a rookie last season. St Brown also has multiple playoff wins.

There's more than one way to build a Super Bowl winning team, and truly great receivers can definitely help. I wouldn't put Aiyuk in that class though honestly.
Take Aiyuk out of the Trade to New England rumors, they just signed Diggs.

I don't think so. He's all they have at WR now.

They have Diggs/Collins/Bourne now iirc.

I will say this about the possible Aiyuk trade.

We all better hope if he's traded that it's for a day 2 pick at minimum.

If we trade Aiyuk for a day 3 pick just to clear that money I will expect this team to blow up very soon and the folks hoping that Kyle/John are gone will get their way sooner rather than later.

Because that will tell me Jed/Paraag are making football decisions now and bad ones. I can't see Kyle and/or John wanting to stick around once the owner and money guy push their weight around where you're selling off your best WR1 in decades for way below value just to clear $.

I don't think it's that cut and dry tbh. Jed has been pretty good with this regime and while it hasn't panned out like everyone wanted I think these guys all communicate very honestly and that's the secret to longevity working well together.
For all we know they may not trust his knee and agreed a 3 or 4th rounder is worth it etc is my point.
Why would anybody want Aiyuk? He has a torn up knee. A very serious one. Plus a super high guaranteed contract. A team would be doing us a favor taking him off our hands. Plus he's not as good as the contract anyway. Even when healthy. It was a bad deal that got worse. When he suffered the very serious injury.

Its not like we would be trading Jerry Rice. BA is an over paid, entitled, slightly above average WR. He had one good year. I really dont get the drama.

It would be better to clear him and his huge salary off the team. Yes we are in a rebuild too.

That's alot for a 31 year old WR who suffered an acl injury last season.
If they get rid of BA, might as well say buh bye to BP and bring in as many good rookies as possible... get Brady Cook and bring back Lance while you're at it. The year gon stink anyways, might as well tinker around
