He's nowhere near our best player and that includes pre injury.

He's actually very close to being your best player. He has a history of dominating his position on the field, he's led us in receiving already. And let's not forget that he keeps getting better and better as he goes on. He earned an incredible contract by getting better and working hard, if he continues on this track, he could easily become our best player.
No he isn't its not even debatable and he has no history of being dominant.

No history of being dominant…

Were you asleep for 2023?

He had 75 catches. That is far from dominant and I love Brandon. If you pay 30 million a year for a WR they should be in the 100 catch/season range.

How is that on him? He led the league in YPR until the last week of the season when playing with Darnold dropped him to 2nd.

If anything it says if he went to a team who fed him on the regular like other WRs are he'd put up crazy stats. He had the 2nd least targets of the top 20 league leading receivers in yards that year and Justin Jefferson who was first played in 5 less games and JJ was 20th in yards. Aiyuk was 7th.

It's simply wrong to say he was never dominant. Every metric out there for WRs showed he was absolutely locked in 2023.

Genus…. it's not even worth arguing with somebody that doesn't understand football the way you do. I'm right there with you. I've been trying to convince everybody how he had one of the most efficient seasons in the history of the NFL. People just don't want to admit that if he had the target share even close to the best receivers in the game he could have gotten close to 2000 yards and a lot more touchdowns. He was dominant on every level and that's with Brock, who is barely a top 10 quarterback and in a system that does not feature any one person

Agreed, he is a stud and nobody wants to admit it because they are butt hurt he had a contract negotiation and got hurt. It's not like 9ers have a great track record of getting deals done early so let's not act like their aren't two sides to that story
What I object to is using the 2023 season as evidence that he's a great player now, in 2025. That remains to be seen. If he could return to that then he'd be worth the money. Fans being "butthurt" aren't the reason the 49ers have been willing to trade him.

Well two things

1. 49ers haven't traded him(at least yet)
2. If they trade him it will be because of how much he's getting paid and the fact that he got injured and they may think given the state of their roster waiting for him may not be worth it.

So if #1 holds out then your point is dead in the water.

And we can look at 2024 as well, when I think we can all agree Aiyuk wasn't up to his own standard and he was still getting great separation. Just had concentration drops and timing problems and the impact he had on defense was very clear - which is why our passing offense took a big step down once he got hurt.

And yes 2025 is another year and a serious knee injury throws a lot of unknown in there. He could never be the same guy again...or he could get right back on track similar to Nick Bosa and many other players who suffered knee injuries in today's game and came back to play at a high level.

Now...if people are upset about how Aiyuk handled the contract stuff and worried that with the injury, the amount he makes and the fact that he may not be back to form until 2026 and then we're close to another potentially nasty contract situation then I can see him being moved. But what I object to is fans acting like Aiyuk isn't a special talent. He 100% is and he would put up the numbers to support that in an offense who fed him. Similar to how George would be crushing all sorts of records if he was fed like Kelce or how McBride and Bowers were fed last season.
I personally don't think there's any way Aiuyk is on the team post April 1. I think they regret that signing big time the most of all their contracts they handed out.

The rumors are NE or Cleveland. And NE badly needs a WR. They have no-one.

Something like Aiuyk and 5.160 for 3.69 would work.
This thread plus the BP thread are on repeat with bad takes. Brock is getting signed to a new deal and BA will be back playing for us in 25. Hurry up and get here draft!

Good news is one way or another we'll know by next Tuesday.

Just insane to me that people are advocating for a 2 round upgrade for an All Pro WR.
If BA is traded, we're all in agreement that this mandate is coming from above Lynch and Shanahan, right? ie Jed York and his cronies(Paraag) want 1)BA's money off the books 2) still upset about how he handled himself during negotiations, and they want to undo that precedent as much as they can.

I have no problem with the contract negotiations. They gave two aging players money when they had no more guaranteed money on their contract. Both were injured and one suddenly came up with tendinitis in both Achilles tendon after getting the money. The thing I do not get is who would trade for someone who tore knee up and is still in recovery?
Is there a player anyone that can point out that had a full bounce back from this injury? Only players I can think of is Bowman and Lattimore both superstars fast and agile by both their careers were cut short and never were the same after the injury.. At this point I'm just hoping he can be a solid #2
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5542124/

According to this players with his injury have a 70% chance of returning that's not saying he'll be back at 100% but 30% of players with that injury never see the field again is pretty bad

The dude tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus. Id wager a good amount of money he will never be the same.

I tore my meniscus in 2019. It took a year to recover and I'm still not able to run or move like I used to. I'm by no means a Pro athlete but I have been going to the gym and playing sports my whole life and it's not the same.

I can't imagine tearing your ACL and MCL too.

I'll be surprised if he sees the field in 2025.
