David Lombardi did a good video explaining the financial advantage of an Aiyuk trade, though he thinks that it's unlikely.
They could save about $50 million in cash over the next two years if they trade him prior to April 1. If they don't trade him by April 1st they have to pay the first half and he second half becomes fully guaranteed for next year. So if they are going to do it, now is the time.

We all know what David is at this point. He's a "team can do no wrong" so he's going to paint a pretty picture either way.
If 49ers trade Aiyuk he'll retweet that video and say "I told you so, you just need to learn the cap"
If 49ers don't trade Aiyuk he'll say "Anyone with a brain understood the move wasn't going to happen"
He's a very good reporter but at this point he's basically become Grant's polar opposite.

I said anything better than a 5th round would be a steal from the reports of him asking for the trade. He's not an insider anymore that was a very logical draft compensation.

Before Aiyuk signed Pitt offered us a 2nd or a few mediocre players.
Mayer was a 2nd round pick. He had a nice rookie year then was stuck behind Bowers. Coming out I saw comparisons to Jason Witten. He's a legit beast of a blocker too. ND used him as a tackle on run plays.
Not sure if we ever got official compensation details that weren't someone making things up but compensation tends to be lower when guys are expecting game changing contracts(like BA last offseason) or have big contracts but aren't playing up to them(like Deebo)
It's a leverage game. Trading for Aiyuk now you know what you're getting. You don't have to rework the deal and the 49ers did the hard part. Biggest thing is he's injured so there is unknown of what he will be post recovery. If a team is willing to take that risk the compensation will be less than if Aiyuk was fully healthy but that's another reason the 49ers shouldn't sell low. You did the hard part, you know what Aiyuk is when healthy. People looking to get rid of him because they're still upset at how the negotiations went last offseason and forgot what he brings the team because he wasn't himself early and then injured rest of the year.
The chart I posted above showed he was still getting open. Get him healthy and he's a key piece of our offense. If we're going to dump good players when they get hurt it's a bad business model. Especially heading into a weak WR draft.

I thought the conversation was about Aiyuk. That's what I posted about. Lombardi took the time to explain the financials of a potential trade situation and I thought he did it well. You make it personal about Lombardi and then bring in Grant Cohn, which has nothing to do with it.
Yes, Lombardi can be annoying. So what? Make a thread about how annoying Lombardi is.

Who cares? Yes David can be annoying but he's pretty good with the numbers.
It's a stupid point. We all know that getting rid of big contracts save money. Why pay good players in the first place if you can just save money and easily replace them with equally or better talented cheaper players right?

What's a stupid point? He just said what the specifics would be if the team decided to trade him. And you apparently don't like that.
But some other people on this thread may find it interesting that IF they decide to trade Aiyuk that it has to happen before April 1st for the reasons I already wrote.

How are you getting bullied? I'm simply talking about Lombardi's point being stupid. We understand that getting rid of Aiyuk would save money but you're getting rid of a good player.

I was more referring to Lombardi playing both sides. To me if the trade happens it's a major fail by the 49ers and him trying to paint it as a good move is why I think it's stupid.
We understand there are cap savings in moving off a big contract but the whole thing is you're losing a player you felt was good enough to earn that deal. Bad business IMO but David can't admit that when it happens so he has to play the other side so he can pretend it was a smart thing to do IF it happens.
