I think Packers had that same thought process, I know their fans certainly did.

At least the bulk of our team has felt the type of talent Mahomes has and the speed they have on the roster on offense. The physicality we play with and the improvements we have from last year are vast.

Yup they haven't seen it or felt it yet but they will in two weeks. Film study ain't nothing like experiencing it

I think a good way to mitigate the KC speed at WR is to be aggressive and hands on with press/bump at the line, with a safety over the top in case the CB is beat off the line. They aren't big and can re-routed if the CBs are physical. If the 49er CBs can walk the line with illegal contact/defensive holding, then KC will have their speed lessened. If the refs are calling it tight and flagging illegal contact downfield each time it happens, KC will benefit greatly.

With KC's run game being non-existent, I think playing two safeties back will not hurt the 49ers and can help them defend the pass.

Good thing we have uncle Sherm to teach these LOB tactics to the youngsters

Wonder if it is better to play the DB's physical with KC WRs since our Safeties are fast enough to cover ground where needed. But at the same time, Mahomes is similar to Rodgers, as most QBs are, in that they rarely throw on schedule. May be better to cover the route rather than try to cover the WR.

Right. I keep telling these dudes we have the tools and we know how to use them. Difference is we got two weeks to get ready for a must win and guys will be rested and ready. KC hasn't seen this team and I almost feel bad for what's going to happen to them

The problem is first down routes underneath to kelce etc. He always finds the soft spot in a zone.
only thing helping us right now on D is that we have played 5 games now with a squirrel back there for QB, and I think acorn head has an idea or two how to slow them down

on O Kyle has 2 weeks to game plan, nuff said
Back in 1984 the Dolphins had the most explosive QB in Dan Marino. He threw 48 touchdowns during the season and had the Marks brothers, Duper and Clayton to run past defenders. Fast forward to 2020 and the most explosive QB on the planet with super fast receivers. To quote Keena Turner from America's Game 1984, once a QB gets hit enough I don't care who he is, he becomes ordinary.

Exactly. Sherman can give a masterclass on how to defensive hold without getting flagged. Those speedster WRs love a free release off the line and won't enjoy being grabbed. That just might give the front 4 an extra 0.5 seconds to pressure pocket. At that point the 49ers need to plaster to a guy once Mahomes breaks containment. The 49ers can be very disciplined in their rush lanes and still not prevent Mahomes from evading the pocket.

I wouldn't compare a statue to one of the most dynamic QB's in the NFL who also happens to be cerebral. Mahomes is no joke.

The only thing is that Mahome's arm is better than Wilson's. He can throw it accurately in an instance 30 yards down field on a laser. Our biggest advantage is that KC run game isn't anything to be afraid of so that we can pin our ears back. GB actually had success running the ball but Rodgers kept choking it away.

That's cool and all but Marino wasn't a threat to evade the rush and create outside the pocket. I think that's the great equalizer for KC. The 49ers can do everything right from snap to 3 seconds - once Mahomes rolls out of the pocket, that's where he is extra dangerous.

Really hope we work on hitting the WRs if Mahomes rolls out. Not like a Personal Foul hit, but a hard enough nudge to get Mahomes not to throw the ball.

Yeah KC's running game not being a threat should allow the 49ers to cheat towards rushing the passer. KC's screen game helps their cause, but it seems like the 49ers have been really aware of the screen game. MIN's screen game was completely neutered. GB had a couple good ones.

I think quite a bit of that comes though from the opposing defense going for the strip instead of the sack, at least in what i have seen. They catch him but don't bring him down. Our d is displined enough with good tackling technique.
I feel incredibly confident going into this game .

I'd feel a lot more confident if Mahomes ate some bad sushi before kickoff lol.

Hopefully we come playing our best game of the year on all sides of the ball and Chiefs come out sloppy as they have all playoffs and realize a bit too late that overcoming 2+ score leads against our D is a lot different than Houston and Tennessee.
