Montana was old at that point, and Dallas was in dynasty mode. You cant just assume he would've beaten them. Young threw for 600 yds with 2 passing and 2 rushing TD's in those games. The Cowboys were just better.

Lott had one good year after he left SF.

Craig might have fumbled in 1990, but we lost a home title game on 5 field goals. We didn't allow a TD and still lost. Thats on everyone.

How could you trade a talent like Haley to your #1 nemesis? Did the Niners even contact any other team for trade? I honestly believe this was a calculated move, as they knew Haley was a disruption, and they hoped he would rip apart the cowboys organization internally. Unfortunately, it totally backfired.

This is the 90's Cowboys we are talking about. Michael Irvin literally stabbed a fellow player in the neck for taking his locker stall lol.
What's up in here? I came to bask in the gloating and we're debating Montana vs Young?

Seahawks LOST! Pete the Cheat is a dunce!

NINERS with 3 to go!!!

young made key mistakes.. before both games.. jimmy johnson said he did not trust young to win a big game like that and he was proven right. you can spin it how you want but letting lott go ranks right up there with terrible decisions this franchise has made

i f**king hate pete. still b***hing about the non call. he is doing that to deflect from him s**tting the bed at crunch time and to work the refs so they can get calls vs the eagles. i wish the eagle fans would channel their inner santa clause self and throw batteries at the seattle sideline all game long

lol. This the truth. This is the first time in a looooong time everything is going our way.
I was listening to the Seatlle ESPN radio station on NYE and heard them talking a little about the game. All of the radio guys said they were scared to death that the 49ers would go for that 4th and short after the Garland penalty, convert it, and end the game. That made me smile.

God, I hate that guy.

How could anyone hate young lol

Seriously. Young is my all time favorite player EVER. Unbelievable talent, heart, and determination. Loved watching him play.

Yeah Idk.

The other Young... BY, who was my favorite player for a long time. My friend told me that he was an a*****e to him at SJSU. I've heard it from another football player from there too.

So yeah... BY maybe, but Steve Young there's no logical reason to hate.

Really? I loved BY too and find that shocking, he always seems so humble and dedicated to his job.

Defensive line coaches aren't supposed to be one's friend though.

Joe with that team - I think we could have won two more Super Bowls.

You have no idea. That's called letting nostalgia cloud your judgement.

What happens if we traded away Young instead and Joe continues to deal with injuries missing key games?

You're acting like Joe went on to play for 6+ more seasons starting every game.

Truth is that during the time span that both played 1992-1994, Young achieved more in a stronger conference. Joe didn't get the Chiefs to a SB and he had a loaded roster.

Ppl that wish we kept Montana try to keep the 80s alive in their minds. I suspect the end of the dynasty would have come much sooner if we dropped Young for Montana, and I HIGHLY doubt we'd have our 5th by 1994.

Now....had we kept Watters and Deion, I think a three peat from 1994-1995-1996 was more than do-able.
I really think the NFL wanted to call the missed holding calls on Seattle's offensive line. I also think the NFL wanted to retract the personal foul on Garland running down field blocking. So we're going to dwell on this until our next playoff game and then blame everything else that happens this year on it.
