At some point you have to be kind of a dick, or youll waste too much of your life people pleasing. Too many fans are selfish and rude, so its off putting. Some people are very generous and patient, some just arent wired that way. Hard to stamp them a jerk under brief circumstances from individual sources.
You hear famous people talk about fans interrupting them out to dinner with their families for pictures. Then when the celebrity tells them to kick rocks they go tell everyone that person is a dick.
I like young very much but at the time and still am... of the opinion.. we should have kept montana. groomed bono. traded young who lost two nfc title games in a row. that was when the fan base, unlike now. did not tolerate losing those sorts of games . you trade him to the chiefs for derrick thomas. you then should have kept lott which meant you could keep haley. the defense would be fixed. we would never have had to go to salary cap hell in order to buy steve young a defense. and by keeping montana. the team would have been forced to address the running back spot which they never did after ricky left which cost us bad
First off, Bono was not a good starter. I lived in KC while he was the starter. Everyone hated him. You're talking about trading away a HOF QB in favor of grooming Steve Bono. Mega derp. The rest of your plan is all 20/20 hindsight, woulda shoulda coulda. Obviously we should've kept Lott, gotten Haley help, kept Watters, etc. We let Lott leave because his best years were behind him. We were an elite team in the early 90's, things just didn't go our way at the end. As the 1990 nfc championship game proved, a Montana led team was not immune from an upset defeat at the end. Young gets crucified for losing in 92 and 93, but we didn't get it done in 90 either.
Montana was retired by the end of 1994. So from 95-99 we would've had nothing at QB while Young made KC a regular SB contender.
The anti-Young sentiment is such a weird stance from some Niners fans. They just want to close their eyes and pretend Montana would've just had another magical decade in the 90's.
