San Francisco 49ers vs Carolina Panthers pregame thread - 2019 Week 8

This game worries me a little more than the others we've played so far. The defense is excellent and playing at a very high level, but the Rams and Skins both noticed that we can be susceptible vs. the run game. MCCaffrey looks like he's possibly the best back in the NFL right now. Normally I'd be more confident, but with the key injuries on offense, I'm hoping we avoid a shoot-out. Not saying we won't win, just that the Panthers are better built to contend with us.

I wonder what the odds are that Staley returns this week.

Do you ever get tired of getting so angry over people having a different opinion than you?

If our d-line is the best in the league then they can prove it this week. The numbers don't really support that assertion yet.

and what "numbers" support your take?

To be fair, one can make an argument that the Panthers have the best front four in the NFL statistically. They lead the NFL in sacks. They are 4th in pass yards per play.

Also, the Panthers faced Jacksonville who is 4th in the NFL in sacks and still put up plenty of points. This one won't be easy.

i agree, it will be a tough game. and i agree. there was no need for a snarky response to your opinion. we will face a honest to good pass rush in my opinion

say something dumb with little evidence to back it up and you're gonna expect a "snarky" response BUT IMO that's what he's looking for with comments like that.

saying the panthers have a very good front is not dumb. saying this will be a very tough game for the team is not dumb

the question is, do they put Cam in if we get a decent early lead? This game is going to be really tough.

ok. Cam not being active would be best for us to just focus on Allen's tape for the week.

Their D is legit, their O is evolving and has been productive... they have to travel across the time zones so we have an advantage there... I see a close game but we handle them for the W...

Waiting to see if Mayo's penis see it's shadow before I dial in my final prediction.

Their pass D is legit, run D not so much. I'm running it right at skinny leg burns or Addison. Neutralize that edge rush a little.

This game is a big one, I feel like we stack up well vs them. McCaffrey will get his BUT if our LBers who have been studs in coverage can slow down those screen/dump offs that will be big. Allen is gonna feel the pressure this week like he's never felt before. Make him have to push it downfield.

Like I say every week no stupid turnovers please.

Kuechly. Dude is a game wrecker, he worries me in our run game.

I think our D matches well with their strengths, and our pass rush is going to put Allen on his back like he has not seen yet.

Yeah he's for sure still very good, I wouldn't say he's at that elite level he was in the past though.

Their only real win IMO was vs the Texans and that was mainly because of their pass D which is elite. That Texans OL played pretty awful.

Man it would be awesome to get Joe back for this game. I doubt it though.

A good sign of elite coaching is making rookies look completely lost.

Outside of two fluke deep-balls attributed to two separately injured CBs (i.e., Witherspoon and Verrett), we definitely had Mason Rudolph uncomfortable. Allen is next!

This will be a very interesting game for many reasons.

One reason is to see how much the Niners try to confuse Kyle Allen, and how he responds when his timing is sped up. He has been very steady thus far.

Although I would have preferred him to be into the Niners I can appreciate not wanting to do what Dad does. My Dad was a big Cowboys fan. He wasn't so happy with my choice when I was 8 either.

i became a niner fan cuz in iowa. in 1972 all my friends like the vikings. i wanted something different and i liked the niners name and their colors. and sally mcmillan in mcmillan and wife wore a gene washington jersey to bed every night and she was alot of boys wet dream so there you go. lol. my 2 daughters had no choice but to be niner fans ., thus their husbands had not choice but to be niner fans.. so five years.. did you watch the niners beat the panthers in the playoff game or was that before he liked them

That's fair, I'd probably put DBs at a push and out LBers aren't far off.

Neither Rudolph or Allen are rookies FYI
DJ Jones being healthy will be a big key vs the Panthers
This team will not lose to a backup. He's on the level of Keenum, Rudolph and a Jamis.
