Keep it up dude! In the second half you're going to see Exum was everywhere too. Literally...from blitzes to deep drop coverage and everywhere in between.

Is that the guy that averaged 3 yards per carry?

not bad for a guy who literally just showed up in Santa Clara the same day.

Wilds was the one who got signed hours before kickoff. Walter has been in camp and got signed as an UDFA after making the team as a mini-camp tryout. I thought he showed promise. Wilds had the better YPC average at 4.1 -- Walter was 2.9. Walter however made plays in the receiving game (5 catches for 32 yards).

Wilds was the guy who signed day of the game, and FWIW he has played under Kyle previously so a little familiar with the OZ.
I can't wait to see who #1 and #2 are.

PS: Yes, per PFF grading, getting tossed into a teammate and breaking his leg, is a +10 grade.

I can't begin to understand how Toran is ranked top 5. It seemed like he was on the ground on almost every play.

MY Fault for mixing them up, thanks

Just proves how sh*t PFF OL rankings are.

Wonder if Toran took out Bosa too
Ok, so far into the 3rd quarter, Taylor 77 keeps coming. The guy is demanding double teams on every snap and he is redirectly the qb and rb consistently. He did this last year in the preseason as well. I hope he gets a few more snaps in the rotation this year.

Deebo and Hurd are going to be difference makers year 1 barring injury. You can tell that sometimes Hurd is not sure about lining up, especially after motions, but once he gets out of his head, he is going to be a monster. There was a big play late in the 3rd where Hurd ran a 5 yard slant but Beathard took a 3 step drop. Either Hurd should have run a quick slant or Beathard should have taken a 5 step, because Hurd wasn't far enough in his route to be in the window between the LB's, and the pass was made into the window before the LB. If Beathard had taken a 5 step drop, Hurd would have been open in the middle of the field. I'm not sure who made the mistake (I tend to think it was the rookie). Also, if the pass wasn't underthrown, Deebo would have had an easy TD on the long pass that he had to stop and make a great contested catch. This is not a catch that your average rookie makes. On the 2nd Hurd TD....finally....finally...a fade that looks easy. Good body position, no push off, high pointed it, good throw, strong catch and turn.....just perfect.

Toran 66 reminds me of Chilo Rachal. He is the one responsible for the injury to Coleman, and it was blocking his man into the back of his own player. Seems overly zealous to put someone on the ground and made several missed blocks on stunt combos because he wasn't patient enough. I was really hoping he could fight for a possible starting job at guard, but I don't see it. However, he seems to be playing better at center.

Skule continues to block really well. I can't say he looks impressive, but he is getting the job done. He whiffed on a outside jab step, but recovered enough that he would have pushed his guy past the front of the QB. However, the left tackle allowed his man into the face of the QB on the same play so nothing else really mattered.

There was a completely wrong call by the refs. They called DJ Reed with a holding penalty on a play where Exum strip sacked the QB. Reed was playing about 10 yards off the line and the WR didn't even come near him until after Exum had hit the QB. Absolutely horrible. Exum has gotten home no 3 blitzes now. Seems to have a knack for timing it up and evading blockers.

Azeez Al-Shaair...46.....I'm watching this kid now. Fast and super powerful on contact.

Walter seems fast, probably helps to have perfectly fresh legs, but there have been a couple runs where I know he didn't know about the cutback lane that was planned. When you see the left guard and center double team a block and then the center releases to pick up the LB, but Walter keeps running to the left of the guard, the LB can also keep moving and the center can't get there. I think that having the RB with very little knowledge of the plays is a disservice to the rest of the offence. It takes all 11 being on the same page for an offense to work.
Man I'm rewatching the game and decided to go with the NFL coverage so I wouldn't have to go through the commercials...holy s**t the Dallas announcers suck.

Kendall Bourne...
Total Dallas bias(ok kind of obvious)

But clearly they have no idea about the 49ers, you'd think they'd at least prep for the game but nope...

Kind of weird that nfl.com even uses the visiting teams announcers.
4th quarter time. Johnson #48 has really improved his hand use, but he still doesn't whip his head to find the ball. He is probably still better than most depth we have, and this D will work to his strengths and length but I'm not excited about him at all. That being said, the PA at the end of the game was BS.

DJ Reed has a good head on his shoulders. There is a few times in this game where you can see DJ, not just trailing behind a WR, but positioning himself for the next move....and this kid can really cut on a dime.

Ok....seven minutes left in the 4th quarter and I just watched Street 95 drop back into coverage.....what the heck was that? Taylor running to the outside and Street dropping back. No wonder it was sack fumble. The QB had to be like....whaaaaaaaa? Moore 92 and Al-Shaair getting to the ball.

Al-Shaair flies to the ball. Just so fast. Put him 1 on 1 on a rb out in a route and forget about it.

Tim Harris #35 seems close. He is in good position, but like a split second late. That is good to see from a low round rookie. I'll like to see him take the next step and get to his spots in time to break it up. Right now he is arriving less than a step

#77 on offense....that hair is majestic.
Skule working at right guard now. Much more of a mental game at guard, constantly passing people off to both sides and dealing with stunts. The tackle just has to take the outer most player and is on an island. Skule seems to be really confident at tackle, but unsure of himself at guard. However, he keeps getting out to the LB's and getting position, so he can do it.

RJJ #13 still on the field and getting open. I'm high on RJJ, and he seems to produce, but I'm worried with him being out this late in the game. Would have led the team in yards and catches if not for penalties.

Wilds....not sure where this kid came from, but he brings something so different than the rest of our backs. He is a tall, straight line bruiser. He won't make the team, but it became very apparent to me that it is something we don't really have (unless you count Hurd as a possible RB...which I would LOVE to see)

Greenlaw....what a hit on the return team. He can just flat out track and tackle.

#78 on the d-line just keeps beating the left tackle. That tackle just can't handle him. Not sure if #78 is doing anything amazing, or if the tackle for DAL just sucks.

It is clear that there are some players on the field that are way better than their competition. Exum, Taylor, Street, DJ Reed, and Moore 92 are having their way with the person across from them. Exum had a hit that was WAY harder than the one Colbert did. I'm still not sure why Colbert got ejected for it. Made no sense.

Ok, I think I'm done.
Big takeaways: we have some future WR's I think. We might have some good young LB's. Our dline is STACKED. But will our pass rushers be healthy? This game was great to review our young talent, and we have young talent in the front seven of our D and at WR. I think we are fine with our RB's, but they were all sitting.
Next draft has got to be on a high end talent at safety. We need a young difference maker in the secondary. If we were healthy, I think our secondary is ok, but outside the older CB's, we don't have any next level talent in the secondary. Alot is being made about Moore #33 at safety, and it is possible that he played so well that he was rarely challenged, but he was still playing during trash time and I only noticed he was on the field twice. Once when he came screaming in to hit a rb, and on the late hit with :40ish seconds left in the game. He looks the part, but I'm not sold yet.
I'm not sure when this started but the NFL is in full paranoia mode when it comes to protecting players. I can remember when the first team played at least the first half of every game but the 3rd or 4th. They actually used to play 6 games. Now you barely see a starter on the field for many of the games. The Niners tool it to the extreme this week when the only possible starter that saw the field other than the kicker and punter was Pettis and maybe a DB since that's still unsettled. I know they're trying to protect these guys but you have to get some game time to be ready physically as well as emotionally. Hitting opposing players is way different than banging on your own teammates. We end up starting the season with teams that aren't in sync which results in some shoddy play. Players will still get injured because they aren't really ready and once the season has started there isn't much you can do to replace guys that go down. At least you have a chance to pick up a guy that gets released in pre season but the good ones get snapped up quickly. I understand why they are doing this but I really question if it is actually doing any good. Players still get season ending injuries and I fail to see the difference if he gets lost in a regular game or pre season game. I hear people say that if he gets injured I would rather see it happen in a regular game. My question is why? He's still hurt. Players can get hurt at any time on any play. It happens in practice( often), pre season and regular season. It seems like a lot of players go down early in the season so I have to wonder if the guys were in better playing shape maybe they wouldn't get hurt as often when the real games start. I could be wrong and I'm sure many fans would disagree with me but I don't see where not playing guys is helping. It reminds me of baseball where starting pitchers used to go 9 innings. Then it was 8 and then 7. Now it's 5. The arms are weaker now since they aren't trained for 9 innings anymore. They say it's to prolong their careers but I still see a ton of pitchers getting arm surgeries. Are we being too cautious with the athletes these days? Is it because of the money? Food for thought.

3 yards per carry or not, the guy came to work. he was the work horse of our offense.

Great topic. If we can't tackle for 5 weeks again and have 20 penalties a game again, this will be answered.
Can someone explain to me why Colbert was ejected from the game? I mean it's preseason but are we seriously going to be ejecting players for hits like that once the real games start?

Is that the rule change? 1 hit and you're out? Talk about handing more control of the game to the refs.
