49ers backup center Ben Garland allowed only one pressure over 25 pass-blocking snaps (PFF). The 49ers offensive line allowed only 7 pressures against the Saints.

These next two games will tell us all we need to know about a possible life after Richburg. He will be facing two of the best DL in the NFL in consecutive weeks. And each Atlanta and LA will obviously be scheming to test him.

Unless he looks like Jeremy Newberry, then we dont need to draft a C. Otherwise its been too long since we drafted and or had a consistent type of pro bowl C.

Garland's strength has always been run blocking, but pass blocking was a problem for him in recent years. If he can hold up in pass pro, that's going to be a huge help for us.

It was just preseason but the was actually dominant as a pass-blocker. In his limited snaps under Kyle (in ATL as well) have actually been pretty solid.

For sure not the answer LT but hopefully enough for the rest of the season.

Finding good pass blockers is getting harder to find every year. College linemen are not asked to block like they used to since so many teams are running spread up tempo offenses. They don't have to hold a block for 3 or 4 seconds while the QB sits in the pocket. More chip blocking and QB options.

...but he had a very good game in the short time he was in against the Saints. One could make a case that the Saints' front four are better than the Seachickens.

Small sample size but the fact Benton kept him versus other options gives hope.
