Yes, before last season the Broncos gave him a three-year deal with an out. The Broncos exercised the out and cut him.

Exactly. Winters can play some SAM on base downs and spell Greenlaw at WILL on pass downs.
Wallow and Bethune should be competing for the final spot.

I thought the goal was to get younger and cheaper. Wasn't Greenlaw hurt for most of his time with Denver. Still, I guess when we need someone to get an Unnecessary Roughness penalty on a 3rd and 20 that came up 10 yards short, we'll be covered.

Getting younger and cheaper is the goal and nothing has changed in that regard. We're not paying Dre Greenlaw a large contract.
In returning to the 49ers, Dre Greenlaw automatically becomes the 2nd best LB on the team behind Warner.
We're still building the roster and making it younger, the best way to do that is through drafting (well.) Nothing has changed.
