Everything you are reading about this guy is exactly the same things that were said about pinion when he was drafted. Quite amusing. Only time will tell whether he was worth the 4th rounder. Odds are, nope.

I dont remember it quite like that. They have very different backgrounds. Wishnowsky also has much better college stats across the board. Nice try though.

Wishnowsky was a far better punter in college. Pinion was drafted for his upside, big guy with a big leg that could boom it but was inconsistent. Wishnowsky was Mr Consistency.

How did Pinion go in the Ray Guy award stakes? And his accent? C'mon Mr Steve2Jerry. You can do better.

I kept on waiting for Pinion to debut that "knuckle punt"

C'mon Pinion today is the exact same player he was coming out of Clemson. A very big leg that struggled with consistency. He was never hyped to become an elite punter by anyone because of how inconsistent he was. Wishnowsky doesn't seem to suffer from the things that plagued Pinion.

Read his thread. Its worse than you think. All i'm saying is the hype surrounding this dude is no different than the hype when pinion was drafted. Just wait on it.

All i'm saying is the same folk were saying the same things about pinion to justify his draft position. Its all right there. Go read the thread. Nobody knows how he will do. But he better be a top 5 punter within the next 2 years to justify blowing a fourth on him.

You should read that thread and how much you supported that pick and you are basically argue with yourself here.

As an aussie, and one who was pushing his barrow since before the draft, pumping the brakes a bit on the guy until we see his contribution in real games is justified imho.

However, I'll not hold the early pick against him or the FO (I was surprised as hell it was this early), but there was a need, they ID'd the guy they wanted and got him, regardless of draft number.
From what has been said here in various places, a 4th for any position is a crapshoot and essentially not worth getting your titties in a twist.

Demanding he become probowl/allpro or top x of position else it's a blown pick, is just like putting your money on the table at the casino and expecting to see it again. You might be lucky, but it is a little naive. Conversely if you don't put money on the table, don't expect to win.

As Y2R has said, "nobody knows how he'll do", but the promise is there just like for Deebo, Hurd, Bosa all of whom may 3 yrs from now be considered blown picks. But the promise is there, which is all that some of us need until th games begin.

Just because it wasn't a glamourous pick, doesn't make it a poor one.

That said, trying for 150 pages by end of preseason. Who is in?

I didn't have a problem with the Pinion pick then, I don't have one with it now. He's on a second contract in the NFL. Many of the guys picked right after him are out of the league altogether.

Earlier in the thread I broke down the 25 players taken right after Pinion. Few are still in the league. The best guy taken right after him was the Patriots taking Joe Cardona who has turned out to be a pretty good long snapper.

As far as caliber of punter, Wishnowsky was just a much more consistent, capable punter. He won the Ray Guy award as the top punter in college football once and was a finalist other years. Pinion never won any awards. He was mostly an upside player, had a big leg, had experience as a kicker too.

Wishnowsky was a response to Seattle getting Michael Dickson who changed games for them. If Wishnowsky can be that caliber of punter then he'd definitely be worth it.
