Parsons was willing to get the deal done then. He wanted to stay there and Jerry basically killed it by being the stubborn old fool he is.

Kenny Clark is a solid player but he's a big body heading towards the twilight years of his career. The first round picks they're likely going to get will be late firsts and odds are they will not be able to find an edge rusher as good as Micah for a long time.

Agree with your 1st part whole heartedly.

The 2nd part is where I view it differently. You are correct that finding Micah late in the 1st isn't likely. However, you can still find all pros at other positions that can help your team win just as much as Parsons.

Now you throw in the extra cash you now have even more players that can help your team win.

If I'm the GM I'd rather the cash and the picks to fill out my roster. Signing Parsons to that kind of money is going to cost you at least one good player if not more.

There aren't a lot of Micah Parsons out there, so a bunch of cheaper players is like a hope and a prayer. The Packers know they aren't getting this type of player in the draft, so they went with the proven guy.

We had 11 picks in this past draft.

Trey Hendrickson led the league in sacks. Their offense led the league in scoring they missed the playoffs. Myles Garret 2nd in the league in sacks. Missed the playoffs.

Bengals 25th in defense
Browns 19th in defense

Dallas with Parsons 28th in defense.

I just couldn't pay any of the DE's more than 30-35ish. I just couldn't.

That's not how I'd build my team. You say it's hope and a prayer counting on the cheaper players and draft picks. You have to do the same thing if you pay them. As you can see, they can't make your defense better by themselves

Most of the top edge rushers in the league played on teams that didn't make the playoffs last season. TJ Watt on the Steelers did but they went out in the wild card game.

Now Bosa is going to want to hold out again and get more money. Just great. I don't think he's worth $47 million. He's hurt a lot. Some years his sack numbers aren't huge. He's a real good player. Not quite the athlete Parsons is. But a good athlete. He uses strength more and pass rush moves. Where Parsons uses speed, quickness and explosion.

That wouldn't shock me if he has a monster MVP type of seaso

I would trade him for a boatload of picks and forego his minimum 50+ per he will want because he's not even performing at a 34 mil level imo, and he will be 28 when he's up for a renew. Parsons is no where close to being worth 47 per,he disappears in many games & especially the playoffs.

Has there been a hold out with 2 years still on that big of a contract signed? If he wanted an extension wouldn't be opposed to it. 2 years down the line it'd be manageable and we lock him up for the rest of his prime. Wouldn't trading him with that big of a contract be a massive cap hit? This isn't Micah Parsons still on his rookie deal
-2021-2022 (looking for his big contract):
34 sacks
40 TFL's
80 QB hits
6 forced fumbles

-2023-2024 (after getting his big contract):
19.5 sacks
31 TFL's
59 QB hits
3 forced fumbles

Don't talk to me about his PFF's grades because he isn't getting paid to get nice grades.....he is getting paid to get sacks and TFL's like he did in 2021-2022.

True, Bosa is a top edge rusher and we didn't make the playoffs last season. Why did you leave us off your list, I believe Bosa is the third highest paid edge rusher in the league.

The other players on the line make a big impact on stats players on the line can put up. In general the better the defense plays overall the better the stats the line puts up.

Bosa was also a top edge rusher when we made playoffs/Superbowl/etc.

What an odd argument. If people are saying "well team X didn't make the playoffs or win the sb despite paying so and so X amount of $$" then every team should just fill roster out with bottom of the barrel players while they keep looking for a generational QB/coach combo. Nothing else matters!

He'll show up this year so that he can hold out for a 50m/year extension next offseason.

So teams have also gone to the playoffs with highly skilled/paid edge rushers?

Eagles won the super bowl mainly due to their D-line.
Overpaid and overrated like his brother.

Give me tj watt over this guy any day of the week
