What's really annoying is getting ESPN alerts to my phone and thinking it's about this lol

It isn't that complicated. They want SF to feel the heat they are feeling now. That's the entire deal. You can't get a deal done months ago, when one side wants to drag it out, so the other feels the heat. It's called leverage. The Nick camp leverage is they can wait SF out, and see if that gets them a better deal. That's what they are doing. I don't fault Nick, or his camp, or the team. Sometimes this is how negotiations go.

The heat for what?

What Heat? There is no heat, unless Bosa is asking for top QB money.

49ers likely showed up on day one of the negotiation saying welcome to the most money ever paid to a DE.

The negation floor likely STARTED at the most money ever paid to a DE. I doubt 4 million dollars is worth loosing 8 million sitting out half a year. They could probably reach an agreement in the middle to avoid a hold out.

So yeah I don't think this is about money .....this is about control

Bosa probably wants 3 years with a 2 year player option and the 49ers want a 5 year contract.

If the goal was make Bosa the highest paid DE in football, this would have been done in preseason....

If the goal was make Bosa the highest paid Defender in football, this would have been already......

Bosa's camp must be asking for something highly complicated, or something that puts Nick in to free agency much earlier then expected. The 49ers REALLY don't want something that takes a 5 years cap impact and shrinks it down to 3 or 4 years at a players whim.

IT must be something like yeah...we will give you tons of guaranteed money but this is a 5 year fixed contract, and Bosa's camp must be like nah...we want an opt out at 3 years. Now all of a sudden that guaranteed money you wanted to spread over 5 comes due all at once.

This would be easy to fix by putting bonus in year 3 and year 5 to spread out the cap hit, and Bosa's camp has no intention of being on "this" contract by year 5.

I would bet Bosa's camp wants something like 3 years with a player option of 2 more (that don't retire clause we are hearing about maybe) and puts it in writing he can't have the Franchise Tag applied to him.

I would bet this is no longer about money and more about long term control.

That is kind of what I'm thinking. If he really wants to eventually go to a different team for whatever reason, he will want to sign a short term contract with a high payout. Something the 49ers definitely don't want.

Not sure what is going on though and everything is speculation.

The salary cap continues to go up year after year, this contract will look cheap in 3 years this is why I think your right. They want to renegotiate in 3 years rather than 4 or 5.

The 49ers control his contract. At best, Bosa can sit out / stop playing. The 49ers can pay him far under top DE money if they really wanted to. That may cause animosity, but to think Bosa has all the leverage is laughable.

I didn't say he had all the leverage. I do think him putting heat on SF by not having agreed to a deal by now is part of his team's leverage. I guarantee you KS, JL are feeling it right now. They want this man on the field. You leverage whatever you can. This is part of Bosa's leverage.

def of leverage in the context I am using - "use (something) to maximum advantage."

he's using his threat of missing games, to maximum advantage..

Love the people on X (Twitter) saying how Bosa is gonna cost us Kittle, juice and BA 😂

My god people do you not understand how the cap works and how old these guys (Kittle/Juice) will be when Bosa's cap hit becomes huge?

they can have all these dudes for the next two seasons and possibly more if they give Kittle an extension when it's needed. Juice is gonna be gone (retire) by then and BA's contract is gonna be big numbers for a couple years all the same.

Some tough decisions will always need to be made, but that's the same for every single team.
At this point, both sides are going to use Sunday's game as leverage for their stance. I see no way Bosa plays Sunday.

The greatest in the league though........and 25 years old. How can we be low balling him. He deserve unequivocally 40 -45 mill per year with at least 110 guaranteed. Not even debatable.

He very well may be the best player in the league outside of the QB position, again.

You don't even know what he's actually asking for and what we are offering, lol,

Don't let me stop you from crying!

Did I mention he is 25 freaking years old.....PRIME.

25 freaking years old...and already 2 torn ACL's...a season ending core injury...groin injury...hamstring injury...concussion....

Yeah at this point I don't think he's even signed by Sunday. I really hope it doesn't cost the game, but hopefully they figure out a way to end this game of stump the dummy before week 2.
Lol 49ers' fan reactions timeline

Excited to see Nick get his deal before camp.

to

Is Nick Bosa going to play this season as a 49er?

now

I hope Nick doesn't drop his body weight on Purdy when he sacks him as a Dolphin next year.

People have said that in here too, and its laughable. When pressed about it, no one has come up with a reasonable explanation as to why they think that is the case.

I see him coming in and saying where do I sign. This is a guy you have to kick out of the weight room. Some guys you gotta pull the reigns back, this is one of those guys.

lol

It's pretty clear that people who say the team has leverage should probably follow the gif you posted.

All Bosa has to do is play six games under current contract.
The FO is on record on saying this is a win-now, SB caliber team.
No one asked FO to shout "NO" at any question directed to them about trading Bosa. Both in March/April and now. But they have.

The 49ers made it clear they aren't trading Bosa AND that they need Bosa to win the SB.
All Bosa has to do - let me repeat it again- is to show up for 6 games at any point in regular season. He doesn't have to play a snap in the playoffs, and so forth.

So tell me, who REALLY has the leverage in this situation ?
Nick Bosa who only has to play six games to accrue a year of service and then become a free agent, and watch money thrown at him...

or

a team who says they're contenders now, say they wont trade Bosa, and who are stuck with an elite asset who only plays in 6 out of 17 games, no playoffs, and at a risk of receiving ZERO compensation for Bosa walking ?

You tell me (preferably without introduction of needless assumptions)

Why even look at what people on that platform think? That isn't even close to the worst, with the racist s**t being more prevalent. I just skim through looking for updates.
