If the goal was we will only sign if ADs contract surpassed that was known when they could start discussing this past spring. It is no longer beating AD it is by how much. It sure seems to me, a big nobody, is not only does he want to beat it, he wants to eclipse it by a huge margin. His argument will probably be AD is winding down. When all is said and done I will be the greatest defensive player to have ever played (hey he believes it. Good for him)
How much above that AD line to sign? I think folks have to stop saying a million or two here. Come on it would be done. He wants AD number blown out of the water.

This is the ONLY reason that is explainable why he has not signed. Not $1m or $2m. That is nuts.

The club can't sit in a room by itself and come out with an agreed upon deal. Both parties have to agree. The Bosa camp isn't agreeing to jack months ago. They want SF to feel the heat of going into week 1 without their star. That saved Nick a lot of mandatory camp, also when SF feels the heat, they may really up their offer. That's what is going on here. Only way to get it done months ago is offer $50m per year or something stupid, and fans wouldn't have wanted that. That's my theory, the agent wants SF to feel the heat they are feeling now. A deal months ago wasn't in the cards, without a comical overpay. Now is the time both sides are highly incentivized to come to agreement.

I guess my point was the ballpark number was known. I believe the 9ers surpassed it fairly early. You know they love Nick and don't dick around too much with screwing our players. That is not this regime. The problem sure seems the Nick camp is tossing unreasonable numbers. Well above and beyond that known AD number.

This is not a kid who is controlling the negotiations. His mom and dad and agent probably are running the show and he goes along. Bosa just plays football and lets "his people" handle the business stuff.

His mom probably forgot to renew his license. He just plays football. Nick has to be the one that tells everyone to wrap things up and just get it done so he can start playing.

I think this bold is correct, and that's how it should be. He's an expert in football, hard to ask he be a expert in contracts and negotiation also. Where I see a similarity to TJ Watt is at a certain point a few days before the season, TJ said eff this, I don't want to miss football games, and came in and signed. Nick can report and sign the best avail offer any time he wants.

Do we know when the plane leaves for Pittsburgh?

If it came down to it just to be there with team last minute he would be on the 9ers/Jed's private Jet just as Jimmy was during his signing which is now eclipsed by Nick.

The Jet staff will all be Instagram models.

I think the Nick camp is just doing their job in reality. Why agree in May and Nick has to report for work for months of offseason? He gets to control his offseason, he gets to sign now and probably gets more cuz the team wants to put an end to this. Nick's team has a duty to Nick, not to SF. That's how it should be. Where I remain very confident is I don't think it's in the best interest of the team, or Nick, to miss games. I think both sides know that. I'm highly confident a deal will get done at the last.

Are you insinuating that any money saved in contract negotiations with Bosa isn't going to go to other players?

I agree.

I don't get what it is, is Bosa asking for the moon, or are the 49ers being stingy. Like Brian Baldinger said, they've made players the highest paid, Kittle, Warner, Trent, traded for CMC, no reason to not give Bosa more than Donald. So annoyed, we need Bosa.

If the goal was make Bosa the highest paid DE in football, this would have been done in preseason....

If the goal was make Bosa the highest paid Defender in football, this would have been already......

Bosa's camp must be asking for something highly complicated, or something that puts Nick in to free agency much earlier then expected. The 49ers REALLY don't want something that takes a 5 years cap impact and shrinks it down to 3 or 4 years at a players whim.

IT must be something like yeah...we will give you tons of guaranteed money but this is a 5 year fixed contract, and Bosa's camp must be like nah...we want an opt out at 3 years. Now all of a sudden that guaranteed money you wanted to spread over 5 comes due all at once.

This would be easy to fix by putting bonus in year 3 and year 5 to spread out the cap hit, and Bosa's camp has no intention of being on "this" contract by year 5.

I would bet Bosa's camp wants something like 3 years with a player option of 2 more (that don't retire clause we are hearing about maybe) and puts it in writing he can't have the Franchise Tag applied to him.

I would bet this is no longer about money and more about long term control.

Becoming a fan of a different team?

No I'm still not ghey if that's what you are asking
I was hoping that the contract would get done yesterday, but now hoping for today.

Time to end this game of Who Blinks First.

I've been worried about this game since it was announced as the Season Opener. Steelers at Pittsburg is tough under any circumstances. Playing w/o your top Pass Rusher makes it worse. If Kittle can't play either, it's going to be very difficult to pull off.

Work it out!

That is kind of what I'm thinking. If he really wants to eventually go to a different team for whatever reason, he will want to sign a short term contract with a high payout. Something the 49ers definitely don't want.

Not sure what is going on though and everything is speculation.

It isn't that complicated. They want SF to feel the heat they are feeling now. That's the entire deal. You can't get a deal done months ago, when one side wants to drag it out, so the other feels the heat. It's called leverage. The Nick camp leverage is they can wait SF out, and see if that gets them a better deal. That's what they are doing. I don't fault Nick, or his camp, or the team. Sometimes this is how negotiations go.
i hope 49ers play hardball, tag him as often as possible and him earning way less then when he would accept the offer.
f**k that, this is a SB Window, its not like they are lowballing him.
Get your ass on the field Bosa
