As bad as you make him out to be, it's funny that Jimmy G. and Shanahan wanted him back, hmmm I wonder why? Is it because I don't know maybe they see him more every day than just read tweets and lowlights of him?

we have been told to trust kyle when it comes to keeping ward and signing johnson... so we must trust them when it comes to resigning mathews. there was obviously no one out there any better they could have brought in

Lol cc couldn't agree more.

49ers don't know what they have in Matthews

He is a veteran who has been on 4 teams in 6 years. We know what we have.

Lol the bias. You bring up his past 3 or 4 teams but ignore what he's done from 2014-2016. Jimmy G. seems to like him that's enough for me.

Why on earth would I have a bias against Jordan Matthew's? Lol. He just isnt any good.

Because you only bring up what you choose to try and justify your opinion. Would you agree with a better QB Matthews is at least serviceable?

Kolohe, this is a ridiculous statement. I only bring up what I choose to justify my opinion? What should i be bringing up that would prove my opinion to be incorrect? He has been on 4 teams in 6 years (5 teams in 6 years if you count New England). He hasnt had a productive season since 2015. Our 49ers cut him in favor of a bunch of unproven players.

FIll in the holes Kolohe. What information is it that I am missing here?

You claim I am being biased against a player that has been irrelevant for almost half a decade, and was never a hated player or anything. Why does it have to be a bias? Why cant it just be that I dont think the guy is worth a damn?

As far as your last question goes, he played with Nick Foles and Carson Wentz last year and was borderline useless.

He's back because of injuries to Taylor and Hurd, otherwise he'd be 7th on the WR depth chart. I guess not being injured because no one wants to give you a job is now a virtue.

"Why" is not really the point at all. The point that he has a job is. Also knowing who is ahead of who on the depth chart is really an unknown issue. No one would ever have thought Bourne would see more snaps than Pettis.

1) Bourne's seen more snap counts if you include special teams, not on offense alone. Pettis leads there;
2) Pettis was in on only 2 plays against TB which skewed his numbers. He's had the exact same number of snaps (68) as Deebo the last two games, far behind Goodwin (88). Bourne's had (45).
I'm glad they resigned him hes good depth has good size for the redzone. Wish him the best hopefully hes found a home here.

Jimmy says he loves trent taylor. so the web zone says we MUST keep trent taylor.. jimmy says he likes mathews and wants him on the team so the webzone says, what is jimmy supposed to say. mathews is junk and has to leave and never come back

Maybe by then the team is ready for a playoff push and he comes in and contributes if hes ready if not oh well there's next year.

despite 0-3 we can not just assume we are in the playoffs.. the kid is young.. i would give him the year off to totally make sure
I was a HUGE Matthews fan coming out and have always been a little disappointed when I've seen him available and the 49ers not really seeming interested. I was mildly happy when I saw his signing during FA and looked forward to seeing him in a Niners uniform, and then I did. I don't know what's happened to this guy, but the fact that he is still available speaks volumes as to the extreme level of soft he displays each time he's been on the field for us. Soft like warm butter. I mean he knows the system some, so there's that I guess......
I think Matthews only needs reps...during the off-season he and Jimmy seemed to be developing good chemistry. Is he the second coming...no, he's not. But he can still be a reliable receiver given he's targeted consistently. Beyond that, he's a vet who's been around and can be a good mentor to what's a pretty young WR corps. I say give him a chance to prove his worth.

Don't really wanna spend too much time on this but whatever the case, no one really knew Bourne would see time before Pettis.

So Pettis' groin strain caused the Niners to be careful with him against Tampa. Injuries let inferior players get extra playing time all the time.

You tell me why Pettis went from 2 plays to 35 in 1 week. Do you honestly believe that Kyle forgot Pettis was on the team, especially since Pettis had a 1st qtr reception at Tampa?

Well Bourne was first in and saw more snaps in that game than Pettis.

4 weeks agoSan Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis played just two snaps in Week 1's victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Pettis was a notable bust on Sunday (one catch, seven yards) but his underlying usage is disastrous. The second-year pro dealt with a groin injury in practice but head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed he was not limited by injury in his postgame comments. Pettis was also the subject of repeated challenges by his coaches during preseason, and Week 1's results indicate it wasn't all coach-speak. After just one game, the talented wideout isn't yet droppable but he'll be impossible to start in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller

But you knew that right.
I think he will score in the red zone tomorrow.

Right. Kyle forgot he was on the team. That's why he's tied with Deebo for second most snaps (behind Goodwin) in Games 2 and 3.

What happened to Bourne in Games 2 and 3? Why did he drop to 4th?
