I remember in 2011 we were expected to be sub .500 but we took off . We have one great advantage, a quarterback that will be able to make up for many shortcomings. The Defense could be much better than expected. At the start of the season every fan thinks his or her team has a shot to go all the way. The season starts next week and we'll get answers soon enough.

Just look at where we were April 2017. This team has had a complete makeover. The GM and the HC were put on 6 year contracts to encourage long term thinking. This wasn't just a lick of paint and some new furniture, this was a complete rebuild. How many players are left from pre April 2017? A handful.

Nobody seriously thinks we are loaded and ready. The excitement comes from the perception that we are moving in the right direction. And a lot quicker than was thought, thanks to Garoppolo.
