Center...man, I've been thinking about that one a lot today. Just WAY too many hits on all 3 QB's this year and no excuse as we're a top 10 rushing team, play action and 2 of the 3 QB's have a quick release.
Me too. He was easily the worst player on the field yesterday, and has had a really bad season overall. I really hope he can turn it around but he is so bad this year that I think we need to look for his replacement. That free agent contract makes me want to bash my head into the wall at this point.
And Tomlinson is such as average G as well. Person is 31 and unsigned. And we need a developmental LT this year to learn from Staley before to rides off into the sunset. Yikes. Run blocking is really nice but...
Well, everyone is dancing around the OL thing but here are the cold, hard, facts. Kyle is obviously wedded to the ZBScheme. That is, his OL is great at run blocking but looking at the QB hits, (plus pull tape on any game and watch our QBs get rammycackled), and you see an OL that can't do pass pro. To most folks, really poor pass pro leads to the inevitable QB injury. GRanted JimmyG's injury was NOT The result of poor OL blocking. He was unwisely just trying to gain a few more yards in a losing effort of a game. That said, the gross # of QB hits leads directly to QB injury. One would think that blowing $137 mil on your QB ...would lead GM/HC to protect his azz. And obviously that has not happened.
What this boils down to is the best playcaller in the NFL has to have his ZBS be tip-top at the expense of adequate QB protection. Doesn't seem to be a quandary for kyle, altho he has gotten a taste of what missing your FR QB can do to yor W/L record as well as the overall production of the team. With a healthy QB we do way better than with JG on the sidelines and CJ our Qb. As luck would have it , kyle/john picked a dandy 3rd string QB who is very obviously our #2...and who knows in the future. Thing is kyle and john have minimized QB protection to emphasize ZBS and a great running game.
Question: if that is the case, how do we fix that? Kyle wants ZBS first, second and foremost. And that comes at the expense of offering his QBs up at the alter of being injured. So how in the heck do we fix something that our HC is definitely the cause of/ or force behind? This is kyle's Philosophy and he obviously isnt primarily concerned about keeping his QB safe. ZBS is always his first goal. Somebody offer up a solution....please?
Oh, and the obvious fact that kyle's ZBS success in the run game sets up his spectacular passing game... well, one sets up the other...but QB protection therefore gets short shrift.
Put another way, QB protection is low man on the totem pole....or a sacrifice for the mind blowing ZBS run/pass game. How the f***can we fix that?
