Well AB, time to rethink ours with the updates that Magnuson and Watson are out and Malcolm Smith is unlikely.

My guess: Erik Magnuson, Malcolm Smith, Matt Tobin, Shon Coleman, Jullian Taylor & Tarvarius Moore

Richie James inactive. That probably confirms Moore is the 2nd gunner.

Going into this past offseason, the Niners lacked a legit #1 WR, a #1 RB, quality offensive guards, and pass rushers....they still have those exact needs today. Pretty disappointed tbh.
Game Assessment:

Unfortunately, what cost us a W today was exactly what cost us W's last year. Crucial penalties, injuries, tons of drops, undisciplined, poor tackling, RZ offense, defenders with their backs to the QB and drops of their own...right down to the wrong cleats.

Big Picture:

We're good enough to stay in these games now despite all of these perpetual issues.

Next Step:

We've GOT to learn how to win as a team by not shooting ourselves in the foot. Rinse. Repeat.

KS answer to losing two injury-prone STARTERS is to swing his rookie OT inside to play OG and ask his poor, injury prone swing OT come in and cover the opposing team pass-rusher. I'm willing to bet the quick pick throws were rushed. JG needs to own those but protection is a big problem moving forward.

You know I was banging the table all off season for Norwell and Sitton and keeping Brown (at least as depth), maybe keeping Fusco and not relying on oft injured players (Cooper/Garnett).

JG threw errant throws all day because of the pressure. And it won't get any easier for the next 6 weeks either.

When you have a FQB, you do everything to protect him.

You were and I was trusting in Lynch and company's ability to see the train coming down the tracks. Now, I'm not so sure.

100% agree and I was hoping they were seeing something different in practice but there's NO WAY you can convince me coaches and personnel folks were seeing something different. You have paper-thin protection for your team's largest investment. Crazy.

I think they got too comfortable relying on Garoppolo to bail them out. I know you had the same take.
What we spent on Ward and AA could've gone to a legit starter at OG

Bingo.
Norwell isn't athletic enough to play this system, Sitton is older, and Brown was lazy, clearly didn't fit the system either. Can't fix everything in 2 offseasons.

Safe to say all 3 probably played miles better than our guys today. 2 carted off and a rookie T moved to G for Garry Gilliam.

Thought I misheard this today! Hard to believe the best option was to move a rookie from RT to RG...yikes! But when you lose two guys...you throw spaghetti at the wall...or rookies.

Great breakdown NC!

Thanks...I appreciate the breakdowns from others too; always good to look back and compare to see how far we've come (or not).

Yes it is. Will be interesting to see if any holes get filled or opened up as the season rolls on
I sure hope Colbert was talking notes on Harrison Smith because that's how a FS should impact a game. AC was freakin a day late and a dollar short all damn day.

Yeah, he's seemed to drop off a bit. Thinking too much?
