Stoked for him!

Would love to see Cole develop into a solid TE, and maybe Dwelley, on the PS, can develop too, he could be special, he may end up on the 53 man, due to injuries, it happens, we're humans, we're not super soldiers, we get hurt, it happens, time to move on, and next man up. I'm happy with Breida and Morris, hoping we add another back, but I'm happy, and excited for the season to begin.

i don't get the doom and gloom, yeah McKinnon's injury sucks, and Mack would have been nice, but the compensation was too high, plus that 6yr $141M is too much for us, we need to preserve cap room for our up and coming studs like Buckner, and Day who both will be eligible for new deals after 2018. The season isn't over due to McKinnon injury and no Mack.

I agree that Ward shouldn't have made the team, but to cut him and eat $8.5M is a tough pill to swallow. The other saved money that we cut, not much, but still.

Always the voice of reason, AB... I appreciate your posts.

As far as Ward is concerned, the team is in need of veteran depth in the secondary. Now, that being stated, I don't believe that Ward is solid as a CB on the outside because he doesn't do well when the play is not in front of him. However, as a slot CB or a FS, he is still pretty damn good. By all accounts, he also works hard and is a solid guy in the locker room. Yes, he is making too much money and gets hurt too often. I'll just say this...if the guy can play 10 games this year, he will help the team. Period.

Cheers!

He's our 8.5 mil dollar gunner opposite Mostert on special teams.

So, there were 3 guys potentially headed to IR on the current roster (Magnuson, Harris, and McKinnon) . Are we going to see three new players on Monday morning? God, I hope so.

The Bears will surprise some, but it is a brand new offense. The defense will be solid but they are at least 2 years away from contending within their division. I make my home these days in ChiTown and hear/read/see their stuff almost as much as the Niners. Tribisky has to take a big next step and I think this year he'll "learn" the offense. We'll see where the Bears are next season.

Man, with a top 5 defense most likely, that running game and big weapons at WR, you're spot on...they'll go as far as Trubisky can take them but may not be playoff bound just quite yet.
Yep the Bears probably have more overall or just as much talent as the 49ers now after all the Christmas gifts they've gotten. If Trubisky can become just a game manager QB, then they will battle for a very tough divisional crown with the Vikings and Packers. The poor Lions are going to get beaten up badly in the NFC Central. Sucks to be them.

The only 2017 draft pick not no longer on the 49ers is Joe Williams. Pita is on the practice squad. It's amazing that the entire 2018 49er draft picks made the team. Pretty nice!

Thanks my friend, i try to be positive and optimistic, one injury and not getting Mack isn't doom and gloom, $141M with $80M GTD is A LOT.

Nice perspectives you two. That is a lot of money but once Aaron Donald got paid, the market was reset for defensive MVP's. I still would have done it in a heartbeat though.

Totally. I see a lot of Celek in Dwelley although Dwelley was a TD machine in college (Celek leads our team in TD's) but ultimately, he's a decent blocker with reliable hands; nothing flashy. He just goes to work. Wick seems like a stud in the blocking game (even blocking at the second level like an OL). He's like a much better version of Logan Paulsen plus Wick has decent hands too. Another deceptive weapon for Kyle.

Yeah, they had an excellent off season. I was looking at their roster and they quietly (until Mack) have put together a nice roster. That is going to be one hell of a competitive division!

Ironically, that's how he's been hurt twice...simply running in a straight line and being untouched (hammy and quad). Pathetic.

If Manguson and Harris officially go on I.R. we'll have these 7 on I.R. with 2 suspensions: Jerick McKinnon, Malcolm Johnson, Aaron Burbridge, J.P. Flynn, Erik Magnuson, Kentavius Street & Marcell Harris with Victor Bolden Jr. & Reuben Foster on suspension.

By my count, that means we have 25 on defense and 23 on offense...so 2 open roster spots.
In the dark times of Baaaaalkie, I found myself spending the week between final cut down the first game checking the 'zone a hundred times a day, hoping we had signed a some decent players acceidentaly cut by other teams.

I was prepared for a year, where finally perhaps other teams would be scouting our waiver wire. While I feel good about almost all of our starters, I have been checking to see if we have signed Arby's or edge rushers in the NFL dumpster.

...or a true box-SS. So far, Korey Toomer (not even our guy) has been the only one to sign with another team.

It's a remainder of how bad things were, and how far we still have to go. We will be a competitive team. We will win more than we lose, but we aren't a dominate force yet.

I like our direction, and I'm still all in on the six year plan, it takes time to recover from such a disastrous era. I think we are 2-3 starters and a handful of back ups away from greatness.

This will be an exciting season, and I'm stocked to get it started!
Have we filled the hole at RB yet, or are they just gonna go with Morris, Brieda, and Mostert? Isn't there an open roster spot?

Apparently there are two open roster spots if they put Magnuson, Harris and McKinnon on IR. Hope they find someone to shore up the pass rush and RB.
