Originally posted by WINiner:I disagree, nearly nobody wanted him starting and the only reason people were ok with his last signing was that the contract proved he was unlikely in their long term plans. It was a backup lineman type contract which was one of the reasons the Dolphins were willing to trade for him rather than wait for us to release him.
Daniel Kilgore signed a three year, $11.75 million contract with the 49ers on February 14, 2018. Kilgore received $7.05 million in guarantees, $4.8 million of which is guaranteed at signing.
Some quotes from the Kilgore thread:
"Great signing.
He is a team leader and Lynch and the coaches found that out right away.
He was also the 7th best center with Jimmy under center. I see no reason to replace him. Something clicked with those two and they had chemistry which is vital in football.
We have much bigger needs than trying to replace Daniel Kilgore."
"When Staley describes you as the captain of the OL and when you can make all the protection calls and have the support of the FQB, it becomes a smart signing given its supposedly a team friendly deal."
"If the GM and Coach are OK with Kilgore so am I."
"Bottom line people don't realize this is the first Jimmy garappolo move. Jimmy said he had a good rapport with Kilgore and the front office didn't want to f#$k that up.lets hope with better guards we won't notice Kilgores sub par play. Hell maybe Kilgore will rise to the occasion."
"Dude, Kyle and Shanny hasn't earned your trust by now? I think they know what they are doing, that they know more about Kilgore, and that they've seen tape on him that we don't have to make the informed decision to extend him. Given his complicated scheme I'm pretty sure Shanny signed off on this; and if he did then I'm good."
