49ers Still Not Getting Recognition | Page 2

Here we go 35 years later. I remember during the 80's and through the 90's, the 49ers accomplishments were always shadowed by what we called east coast bias. Now it's Patriots bias. Here's what I mean. The 1985 super bowl. All we heard all week was Marino, Duper and Clayton, the high powered scoring machine. 52 touchdowns. Very little was said about the 49ers being 17-1. Well, as we know the 49ers went on to shutting down Miami, Marino and The Mark's Bros., and dominate that super bowl. What happened? Marino went on to endorsements and fame. Joe? Not interested. As Joe went on to winning 4 super bowls, Marino went on to being the darling quarterback of the NFL. It took Montana winning 3 super bowls to get 1 endorsement. In 1985 the Chicago Bears went 18-1 and won the super bowl. Great story. Great team. But what happened? The 49ers went 18-1, won the super bowl just the year before. Now all we've heard since 1985 is how the Bears only lost 1 game that year, They replay the only loss that year to Miami in a Monday Night Game over and over. The 49ers 1984 18-1 year got swept under the rug. Why don't they replay that 49er vs Steeler game over and over again. The only game the Niners lost that year. And even today we hear about New England's 18-1 season and the Bears 18-1 season,and how great these 2 teams were. No mention of the 49ers 18-1 year. Thank God we had Chris Berman doing NFL Primetime back in the 80's and 90's. He loves the 49ers and would be the only one to give the 49ers props every Sunday. I remember during the 80's and 90's the 49ers were so good every year that you got the sense the media were so tired of the 49ers being so good year after year. And then all the assistant coaches of the 49ers, going off and having success as head coaches also were talked about. If the 49ers were on the east coast they would surely have had all the accolades that the Patriots have been getting since, say their 3rd super bowl? Montana Rice and Walsh on the east coast? They would all be the measuring sticks. Like what we see with Brady and Belichick. East coast teams just get more press and love. This is why I've been so outspoken about the lack of respect the 49ers organization has gotten, over the years. Fast forward to today. Let's sweep the 49ers accomplishments under the rug and hope no one remembers the 17 consecutive year run the 49ers were in playoffs or winning 5 super bowls. All we hear is how no team has come close to what the Patriots have accomplished. For instance Shannon Sharp (Undisputed) said "the Steelers of the 70's and the Cowboys of the 70's and 90's are the closest teams to what the Patriots have done." Really Shannon? Hope we'll forget the 49ers greatest run in NFL history Pre- Patriots. Even the young talking heads like Nick Wright ( First Things First) have no clue. Quote " Tom Brady defines the quarterback of the 2000's. In the 70's you had Staubach and Bradshaw , the 80;s you had Marino define the position or Montana if your looking at super bowls". Really Dude? That's like saying in the 2000's you had Peyton Manning define the quarterback position. And then you have Tom Brady if your looking at just super bowls. The media to this day do not give the 49ers their historical place in the annals of great teams and great consecutive years of dominance in the NFL. Looks like I'm going to have to remind these hater's of the most dominant team in the NFL before this Patriot run. The Great 49er Teams of the 80's & 90's. I am well aware that the 49ers were so dominate during 80's & 90's that the media made it a point to not celebrate their success. Today's dominant team is from the east coast and they will never stop celebrating the Patriots. Time to remove another rug!

I wouldn't worry about it too much... After everybody is done throwing up all over Brady and his 6th Lombardi Trophy, the media will turn it's lustful drool on the 49ers' own undefeated Jimmy GQ. The rest of the league's fans and all it's east coast bias will be hating on us in no time.

Based on what? Browns stuff was done pre super bowl in a 12 team league 60 years ago. Niners was 20 years ago post merger in the modern era.

Besides, there's no experiation date on titles and they all count. Only people that don't want them to mean anything are fan bases with teams that have never won anything.

Ass for the last 20 years? Boy where were you ? From 1998 through 2002 the 49ers were still relevant and making the playoffs. From 2003- 2009 yes they stunk . And the past three years. If my math is correct that's only a total of 10 years in the past 20 years Your way off. And a old Browns fan? Please. Were talking Super Bowl Era. Were you listening to Browns games on the radio back in the day? No I'm just a 49er fan that wants to see them someday get the credit they deserve!

I hate to break it to you but we've entered another modern era....the new millenium. You say its 20 years, but its closer to 25 years and almost 30 since montana did anything. Ppl getting all upset about a lack of recognition but u gotta be 40+ to truly have any context of that time period. Some of us are in that group but the list of ppl who arent in that group keeps growing. Is it really gonna make some fans feel better if some national media members shoutout the 80s niners as if they were actually around to see it? A lot of these guys were 5 yrs old then.

Lol @ leaving out the ass seasons of 1999 and 2000. In last 20 years they had 2 good yrs with mooch and 3 with harbaugh. Yay we were good for 25% of the last 20 years.
