2017 Game 16: SF 49ERS @ LA RAMS GAMEDAY THREAD

Geoff Schwartz wrote an article last year asking the same question... "Should an NFL team rest its starters in Week 17?" and brings up some valid points.

Here is an excerp from his article from SBNation, enjoy...

Unless there's a catastrophic injury, playing Week 17 shouldn't hurt the team's postseason performance. The most obvious example of teams not resting in the last game of the season is the 2007 contest between the 15-0 Patriots and the 10-5 Giants. Both teams were locked into their spots, first seed and fifth seed. They battled that day with the Patriots coming from behind to win. Both teams then met in the Super Bowl with the Giants upsetting the undefeated Patriots.

This is an excellent example of why playing Week 17 can be an attitude-setting game. By playing this game like a normal week, Coach Coughlin was sending a message about being competitive and stepping up to the best. He wanted to measure his team against the best team in the league. I totally loved this move. But as well, Eli had been to the playoffs twice, losing both times, the team was younger, and they were healthy so it made total sense for Coughlin to treat this week like usual. And it paid off.

Rams scurr
I think Kyle should rest but dress veterans who are not on the Offensive Line. These are the players I would rest but do dress:

Hyde
Dumerville
Reid
Foster (health reasons)

I think that's about it. We pretty much have not much experience or 2nd and 3rd stringers in every other position.

Rams fan here.
Not ready to say Goff is a top tier QB,but in a couple years he will absolutely be top tier.
Mcvay is not the reincarnation of Walsh.Nobody is.Bill was the best and didn't have to cheat his way to get there.
That being said,Mcvay is going to be around for a long while, because he is a Badass.

Here is to making sure Pete Carroll never smells another playoff game.
Watched a lot of Jimmy G. love his quick release.
Gonna be some hellacious games next year..

I hope so; unfortunately, the Lambs will need to start paying all of their top 10 picks and will be cellar dwellers again in 2 years

Probably be another 14 years before the St. Louis Lambs sniff another Playoff.

Rams defense is a fake. They may average 19.7 points per game allowed but their average deviation from that 19.7 is 11.5. This means that they either hardly allow any points or they allow a lot of points. Basically, on average, from their 19.7, they allow 11.5 more points more or less.

It is an inconsistent defense.

Was a inconsistent defense.Rams switched from 4/3 to 3/4 under Wade Phillips.
They started rough, but have improved steadily all year.
excluding points scored directly off turnovers:
They gone from # 22 scoring D in the first half of the season to # 2 scoring D over the second half.
from # 22 in sacks to #4 ************ # 26 In opponents rushing yards per carry to # 5.

Wade don't play.

Geez I have no Idea how long it's gonna take St Louis to get back in the playoffs. You're right it could be a while.

Yeah, I heard they're playing out of the LA Coliseum for some ungodly reason. When are they do back to the Ed Jones dome?

I guess everyone should make the playoffs at least once after 14 years but they're basically the 2016 Raiders, except Carr is a better QB.

There is absolutely no reason to "rest" players when after that day it is the off season. We aren't playing again... They have several months to rest.

You're hilarious.

Serious question. What do you think about your team ducking the Niners this weekend? I mean, they barely beat a Hoyer led squad, I think it's a smart move on their part. Don't want to go limping into the playoffs after losing to a divisional opponent.
