Just play the game like it's a scrimmage - work on different stuff and play some of the backups.

Hmm... I'm not really sure what we should do. I'm cool with playing vanilla or even playing our backups, as a loss would improve our draft position. At the same time, keeping the winning streak going on into the offseason and officially being the least-recent NFL team to lose a game would be pretty cool. Can't really go into an offseason with more momentum than that.
I'm thinking Shanny will still want our starters to play and to play hard. A loss wouldn't be the end of the world for obvious reasons, but like I said a five-game winning streak to close out the season would be great for morale, even if that last W was against the Rams' backups.

I'd rather face them full strength. These types of games suck.
In this case I'd rather lose and save 3-4 spots in the draft.
Hell no, we play the game to win, not to lose. The FO/HC will take care of the draft and make sure we get contributors to next season..
Totally agree. Patriots have a legit Franchise QB in Tom Brady, how has drafting on average 21st position, since Tom's been QB, hurt the Patriots exactly? There were four years where the Pats didn't even have a first round draft pick (probably due to trades and penalties). Point is, once you have that franchise QB, a big chunk of the draft puzzle each year is solved. Win the Rams game and we might lose a couple of draft spots, but we gain by attracting more free agents in the offseason.

My whole mindset at the start of the season was that I wanted the team to show progress in the latter part of the schedule. They have definitely done that. Coach Shanahan seems to be calling plays against the opposing defense that has no clue on how to defend. It reminds me of the late great Coach Walsh who called plays on a different level than his opponents. Oh yes, it doesn't hurt having the next great 49er QB at the helm.

Give Jimmy the first half. CJ 2nd half. OLine plays the full game. Rotate RB, WR, TE in full

I don't understand this type of thinking. After every win you see a crazy excited locker room of young guys who really haven't gotten to see many wins thus far in their careers. Basically outside of Staley, Juice and Dumervil, most of these players on the roster have lost way more than they've won in this league and the rest are rookies who too have very little experience in winning games.
I expect Shannahan to try and embarrass the Rams if they choose to sit guys because it's more important for us to keep our winning streak alive and carry this momentum into free agency, where we need to also win big.
If our boys can turn this into a laugher, then so be it. I personally hope Jimmy breaks a couple passing records on the Rams for not taking a division game serious. Hopefully the carryover effect gets them bounced out of the playoffs in the wildcard game. Hopefully a blowout also has a ton of players thinking "It sure would be nice to jump on that train early because that team has the look of something special!"
This is our last game of the season, so if the Rams choose to use this as a bye week, so be it, they play again in a couple of weeks, but we don't.
This needs to be our playoff game.

in other news, a terrified rams team needs an excuse for an inevitable loss against a surging 49ers team
not starting skill players may be the strategic thing to do but it's not the right thing to do. pls sportsmanship

Shanny and McVay are best friends IRL, so this ' roster pull' could also a gamesmanship 'solid' to protect both teams and their QBs going into Jan. Our defense injured/bruised the Titans and Jags bad, and nobody wants to face Adrian Colbert right now. That guy is so underrated, he's just scalping people with no compassion.
I expect our players to finish this game, even if it's a blowout. These guys are gonna make the best of their last.
